I CANNOT recommend this hotel AT ALL. I stayed here for 2 weeks in October 2019 for business travel. It's nice enough (looking) on the surface, but their service and upkeep are severely lacking. ||Firstly, things just don't work. In my first room, neither my safe nor my refrigerator worked. I complained about it on three consecutive days; finally someone fixed the fridge, but the safe never worked. On the third day, the air conditioner stopped working. I complained again for multiple days in a row (I believe it was also 3), each time being told by the phone assistant that the AC was broken and an engineer could not come to fix it yet. By the fourth day, I was pretty suspicious of this...a huge hotel should be able to afford a mechanic to fix their AC within an hour's notice, let alone 4 days. After complaining once again to the front desk, they told me that the AC was actually not broken, it was INTENTIONALLY turned off for the entire hotel, because it was "cold" outside. To be clear, it was in the upper 60's each day I was in Tianjin, and the sunny side of the building got HOT during the day. My thermostat in my room usually read somewhere between 32 and 34 degrees C, which is 89-93 degrees F. I was sweltering at night; could barely sleep with just boxers on and no covers at all. They refused to turn on the AC, told me they could "open a window". If you've never been to Tianjin, I should clarify for you that it is one of the most polluted cities in the world. There is no way I wanted a window open all night, every night, so that I could be sucking in pollution for 8 hours while I slept. They eventually offered me a room change, which sort of worked for half a day, but it was still incredibly hot. Then they brought me a fan, which did nothing but push the hot air around the room. AC is described on their site as being a standard commodity in every room...so why on earth would they shut it off for the entire hotel, especially when guests are complaining it is hot?||After some time I told them I wanted to check out early, due to their inability to resolve the heat problem. They told me that my company had already paid the 2 weeks in advance, so they had my money....essentially that I could check out if I wanted, but they weren't going to refund me any of it. Wow. To clarify again, I work for a MAJOR international company, one who spends a lot of money at hotels for our many employees each year. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I called my company and asked them to try to rebook - they called the hotel and the hotel manager literally screamed at our agent for trying to rebook. This is the kind of service you're getting at the Westin Tianjin - once they have your money, they don't care about you at all. You're just a number to them. Even if they are destroying their future prospects with a giant company's contracts.||On top of all this, there were all sorts of little inconsistencies that you just don't see at well-run hotels. Some days my soaps/shampoos would not be replenished, even when completely gone. Some days I didn't receive a bath mat. Some days they put a top-sheet on my bed, other days they just put a comforter. In my first room, the wall HDMI port worked, in the second, it was half smashed into the wall and didn't function at all. ||Overall, this hotel added a LOT of discomfort and stress to a 2-week long international work trip. Precisely the opposite of what a hotel is supposed to do. Most of the employees here are quite nice, but watch out for anyone who might be in contact with the manager - essentially the front desk and people on the phone. You're better off just staying somewhere...
Read moreThe room was booked through spg website with my membership details but it was overlooked when check in. Great news was they apologized when I reminded them with suite room upgrade. The room was filled with smoke smell when entering while I requested for non smoking room. I asked the concierge politely if he can recognize the smell. He commented this is wood smell. I requested to have odor control to see if we can minimize the smell. No follow up after he left for 20min. Also, the room was so outdated and like a crime scene. The wood floor was damaged, the carpet was old and dirty, the tile in the showroom was yellowing and molded. I called the front desk with my issues while the smell is not getting better and really cannot accept the room overall condition. They responded immediately and arranged another suite room for me to check and another regular king room for me to check. I was glad to see the action. I was not pleased with the alternatives but was able to switch to another one with less smell. I called with my colleague to make sure she did not experience the same. She was pleased with the room which is relief for me since it was only me with issues. At that point, I was hoping the stay can finish sooner. On the day we checked out, I went to her room and realized her room is in a better condition. It looks it has been updated while all options presented to me was the old units from old days. This is where that I don't understand. While I presented my issues with the room, they did not think of offering me the updated units. I don't care if it were not a suite room at that point. Very poor handling for my situation. The dining area was a scary place. lots of light bulb were out of order. Some were over the food so you cannot tell the food condition when checking. Lack of clearness and services. I normally will stay hotel for most of dining when travelling in China. Not this...
Read moreFirst time stay with SPG in Tianjin, the hotel is quite new and the location is convenient.
However there is a construction going on just beside the hotel which makes it bit noisy and dusty out of the front door.
Also it is a oneway road out of the hotel so a bit hard to get a cab.
This is the longest check-in I have ever waited; I arrived at around 11 in the morning and was told the room is not ready - so I spend more than an hour in the lounge bar for a quick lunch - I went for checking again but unfortunately the room is still not ready... finally I was supplied with a non-smoking room while I have booked a smoking one; the question is I was never asked if a non-smoking room is okay before this...
The room is okay but the air condition did not make it cool enough when you get on the bed - the sheet and quilt are really thick - too thick indeed!
I left my mobile charger in the room after check out so I returned to claim it back - the staff is nice and helpful indeed but I waited another half an hour to get it - I was asked to provide my ID card again to get it - this is okay but I just don't understand as hotel must have a scan copy of my ID card already when I check in, I am happy to show it again to proof the charger is mine but why copy again?
When I return for the charger there is a lady who seems in trouble on the payment, I don't know exactly why but I don't think it is good to keep people at the front desk, standing there and calling all her friend for help - that is really embarrassing.
Overall as a new hotel it satisfies but definitely can do better.
