After so many years living in China I finally made it to Wuhan in early July 2022 with a good friend of mine. We chose the Howard Johnson Pearl becasue of its excellent and convenient location in the historic Hankou District (which is where many of the European trades settled and turned into the commercial and political center during the Occupation Times). The hotel is right in front of the historic Bund waterfront and around the hotel many of the old buildings are well preserved, with many cafes, creatives spaces and cool rooftop viewing platforms to explore. These are all within walking distance, as are some great night markets and bar streets. You can also go for a swim in the river in the morning. Although the hotel and its decoration is a little bit dated (built maybe 20 years ago), it is well maintained and the staff service is friendly and excellent - I travelled from Shanghai when the covid situation was making it hard for travellers from the city to go around the country but the staff were very helpful with covid tests, codes, etc. and made us feel very relaxed. They have a spacious 25m swimming pool with stunning views of the city and riverfront and I'd suggest booking an executive room with great views of the city for your stay. Will definitely go back to Wuhan and stay here! Thank you for making our trip so much easier and...
Read moreOverall, it was a great experience. We got 3 rooms for our family of 6 w/ 2 kids on the 20th floor. This hotel is next to the river so the view is stunning. Overlooked the great Yangtze River. Night view was mesmerizing. All the skyscrapers lit up in sync around the city along side the river. Jaw dropping. We went in mid June and the river was flooding due to heavy rain. There's a big walk way next to the river where lots of people went to hang out even when it's flooding. Real cool. There's also a famous street similar to Beijing Road in Guangzhou a few blocks down. Forgot the name. There's an upscale modern mall called MixC 15 min taxi DD. We're from California and this mall is comparable to our socal South Coast. During summer flooding season, it may be an issue traveling to the other side of the bridge, so just keep that in mind. I gave it a 4 star for cleaniness because I expected our room to be a bit better. One of the rooms we stayed had this old, a bit smoky smell. I'm assuming someone smoked in it given majority of the population in china seems to be smoking like a chimney. The Pearl gave us great modern comfort to an...
Read moreWe arrived late evening so were treated to the amazing light show along the riverfront. All the buildings are lit up and its quite a spectacle. The HJ is part of this so with its iconic glitter ball on its roof it does stand out . Roof top bar is quite impressive but the only issue is the outside lights restrict your view (too much light coming back ) . Generally hotel is pretty good . .Breakfast was great though , nice spacious area on the first floor. Great selection of food and plenty of helpful staff around. Outside the hotel there is a great riverside promenade with landscaped areas and lots of people out walking or doing the morning...
