Wyndham Grand Zhaoqing Downtown — Hotel in Zhaoqing City

This is a sort of white elephant. From the outside it looks great, the most expensive place in town!But the reality is quite different. The lobby is a huge room with big screens and cold environment, the check-in is fast and people speak English. The room assigned was about 700 meters away from the reception!!! super far away and no options of transportation, just walk with my suitcase.As soon as I arrived to my room, there was a strong smell of humidity and drainage pipes.I called the reception and mentioned that, they gave me option of an upgrade, but not for free, I had to pay 200 RMB extras!!!!Finally I took it and the place was the same except with small balcony, not worth it!Note: the view of the lake is outstanding! very nice, but the room is noisy and not comfortable. The breakfast is a market, lots of people, no organization, so you have to fight for a table, if you are alone (as in my case), I had to leave my jacket there to reserve a chair in a shared table.The parking is good, but not convenient, you need to go outside from the hotel building to the parking facilities, in a rainy day is not convenient. The size of the building of this hotel is impressive , the lobby design was extremely impressed . The size of my bedroom was great ! The check in was a disaster Food was a joke ! Starting From breakfast , it was disorganized, no system at all , food was nothing to write home about ! Then my lunch , the wanton noodle was such a joke that even the senior staff of the lobby restaurant was agreed with me that the wanton noodle “just the look “was not right . She ended up gave me a box of the famous Zhaoqing sticky rice as present ! The biggest disaster was the Thai fried rice on the 7th floor the Thai restaurant !! I have no idea why such a beautifully situated 5 stars hotel has got such terrible food outlets and no expert chefs !! All these food problem was on 29th breakfast , lunch and dinner . My room was 6332 , unfortunately one morning at 7.35 on 29th June I was woken up by the workers on the 7th floor due to renovation. I cannot put all the details of my experiences from check in till the end of my evening meals on 28th and 29th June . I love the view of the hotel so much that I stayed extra evening booking through the hotel web site...

I and my family had experienced a wonderful 3 days 2 nights at this hotel with a reasonable hotel price of @ 900/ room/ night for the fabulous extensive area of guest room. In overall accommodation time, the hotel staff we met were helpful & caring, especially the manager Mr. Hugo Li from 璇・西餐厅 provided above & beyond 5-stars services to arrange us 20 seats on 17 Aug night and he was so considerate to advise us sitting next to the vivid live band music, leading to one of my best dining experience in life. We all had a relaxing moment for both adult & children at the hotel, even though we didn’t have to see the sight of “Seven Star Crags”. During the rainy trip, we love the unlimited access of gym room, ball pit, water park, & occasional event of ballontwisting, & bamboo pole dancing.For the concierge staff, they are all professional that gave us a prompt response to our request & also the staff from room services. The attendants were very proactive to assist us in carrying our luggage.It is highly recommended that a big family can come visit this...
