One of the better hotels downtown Zhuhai in Gongbei which is right on the border of Macau. Taxi fare is cheap due to short distance, unless you arrive via the port which is not that far either from around Jida's Juizhou Port, hydrofoil ferry from Shenzhen or Hong Kong. Lots of good shopping at the underground markets, you can access them when you come out of the passport terminal, but because of the two separate country regions you have to do a double passport check at each side. Original quality products can be found in Macau, imitations in China so buyer beware. However, the hotel is also situated nearby. It is a first class hotel offering a first class service so be ready to pay for it, service with a smile. I found the staff to be helpful and friendly, ready to provide you with satisfactory service guarantee. Across the road is a smaller hotel that offers a serviced apartment style with some business enterprises on separate floors; e.g. a nice little cake shop and a coffee shop on the ground floor, and an English language school call the American TPR English School upstairs if you're looking for foreigners or a PA to guide you around. I think it's fair to say that the price is justifiable considering prices in other countries and service staff like to do their job. There is much on offer outside, and lots of little cheap hotels down the street, or for those into clubbing, check out 'Yesterday' and 'Tomorrow', some wining and dining and other things. Lots of massage parlors near the border also, just turn left when you come out. You can drive through the border if you have a car but be warned checks are done due to creative importers. All in all a great little city to visit, population is around 2M, there are plenty of island trips, and it's nice to sleep in a place that is clean and tidy. Taxi to the other side of Zhuhai is not expensive, do yourself a favor and catch the taxi, saves the hassle of the bus during the day time, although at peak hour they usually send 3. No air con is the cheapest, sometimes there is only one bus at quieter locations. Getting to the other side of Zhuhai will set you back about half a CNY bill, careful of counterfeited notes they feel different, try not to get 100 bills off people outside, don't carry too much cash, there are pick pockets in Gongbei, so if you carry your wallet in the front pocket of your jeans, put your hand in it as you're walking. If you want to exchange cash go to the Bank of China. Jida is also a good shopping center not far from Gongbei 10mins by taxi. Now if you're desperate for a steack head to the Butterfly restaurant nearby, just catch a cab, best steak n chip meals in Zhuhai and affordable, nice soups too. If you're looking for a pizza I found one in Wanzaisha run by a Sth African who loves his chilli, nice beers there too, there's also a foreigners bar there behind the Japanese shopping center Jusco's departmental stores where you can buy all your appliances, etc. You will find a pizza and some good English conversation and ||music there. I liked this area better for staying as Gongbei never sleeps until 3am. If you're looking for an apartment check out Horizon Cove, there is an international school on an island nearby. However, if you really want a first class hotel in Zhuhai take a look at the Yindu, there is a golf course nearby and my friends have also stayed there for around a week an dit's a good introduction. Well...
Read moreI selected this hotel from a viewpoint of a good location with five-star. When I check in, I always ask to have a room at higher floor and a fine view. This time I asked to change from a west faced room to east faced (No. 1721) from where the sea can be seen. I asked a front lady if they serve sea food soup noodle at the restaurant and she answered "Yes". Then I took it for late lunch. When I was going to "Zhuhai yu nu xiang", she recommended to take a taxi, but I asked the bus No. and bus stop, and I took a bus. When I came back, I took dinner at the hotel restaurant. Because I found "unagi kabayaki" (grilled eel) on the menu when I took lunch and decided to take. A breakfast is not included, but I took it with extra. So, I took meals at the same restaurant for three times. Before I check out, I asked her the name and number of floors of the building now under construction just located in front of the hotel. She didn't understand which building I was talking about, then I asked her to come out. The answer was " the name is City Time, 53F and stopped construction". Everything was good at this hotel. One episode:||When I took a bus to yu nu xiang, I confirmed a driver if this is the correct bus to get there. he answered "Yes" and he told me to get off when arrived. After sight seeing, I took a return bus and got off at the bus stop near the hotel, and there I found a man I've met somewhere. I remembered he was the first bus driver and he was also on board as a passenger. He also recognized me. It was really "a...
Read moreThe hotel staff and assistant manager on duty on the 25/07/2014 are giving a poor quality service. I've booked 2 nights room stay and the confirmation was confirm. However I was told that my room is only confirmed on one day and the second day was not confirmed and the rooms are all occupied. I shocked and mad because if the rooms are full how can you allowed bookings online and further more the hotel staff could have given me a call to inform me that the room is not available and not on the last minute. The assistant manager do nothing but just giving unreasonable reason. It was my birthday on that day, I've requested for cake and champagne and all are not arranged. I was with my wife and they have the guts to give me a twin bed. They should have a courtesy to cross check and asked right? On the confirmation it was stated king bed size room. Even if it is not arranged, they should have an alternative and not just giving a hack care attitude!||||What on earth is this! Such lousy management and the flooring and the rooms smells like rotten eggs.||||Should stripped of the ratings! It should be a 1 star hotel or even a motel standard. Bad experience and gave a bad name to Zhuhai Tourism as well. We well never go back again this place because if a poor service from...
