La Posada de Las Aves — Hotel in Antioquia

I came to Posada de Aves with a school group after checking it out with my family. Winston only guided one person out of my group of 15 students and had no interest in teaching the other students about birds although he charged a hefty per person fee. Claudia charged me extra for breakfast because I explained that the students like pineapple instead of Papaya and would rather eat granola. We then went to a swimming hole that anyone can go to for free and danced with other locals who were there. Winston smoked a cigarette and ignored our group. When I later explained to Claudia that I think I shouldn't have been charged to go to the original place we wanted to go to ( we couldn't go because of the rain) Winston was rude and yelled at me on the phone. When I asked Winston to tell us his story, he mainly bragged about why he was special because he studied birds and how he's a famous birder. Winston is a very knowledgeable bird guide and photographer who is generous with his time and loaned us a pair of binoculars for our bird watching excursion. Our only challenge was that we barely know Spanish, but he did his best to work with us. He and his wife were very good hosts and they were flexible with our arrangements. Their home is an excellent bird watching area, with hummingbird feeders and others that draw not only a variety of birds but also some small primates. The whole area is good for nature exploration. My time at La Posada de Las Aves was incredible. Claudia, Winston and their two beautiful dogs made for an amazing stay. The accomodation is perfectly nestled away in the jungle and is close to lovely waterfalls and rivers. Winston is a wealth of knowledge about the local birds and we saw so many different species on our walk together. They both made my stay very special and I hope to one day be back again! Muchas...
