Let’s start with the facts, in European and North American ratings this would never reach the dizzying heights of a four star hotel. Not so much faded elegance as disintegrating.|Rooms were old and in desperate need of refurbishment and this was the case throughout most of the public areas within this facility. |I am sure this hotel was the ‘Place to be seen’ at one time but now it’s a shadow of its former palatial self and it’s a sad sight to behold?|Customer service not up to its star rating in fact far from the standard one would expect even in an hotel of lesser quality.|Attended for breakfast one morning to be told the breakfast room was full. It most certainly was not and was reserved for guests. Now we had booked in for 11 nights and as far as I am aware we’re the longest serving customers during our time there. We were advised to use the makeshift facility in the adjoining room. |This consisted at that time of a choice of scrambled egg and watery fruit juice of indeterminate flavour.|They had been busy with a large number of guests and had exhausted their supplies.|Incidentally only once did we receive toast for breakfast and twice received yogurt drink in spite of this being my menu choice for the entire stay.|I prefer a service where waiting staff are noticeable by their reserved service, here they ounce as soon as you out your cutlery down and dished out the hot courses at breakfast before we had finished our fruit plate. We got the impression that guest are an inconvenience and need to be dealt with swiftly.|One day our air conditioning unit within our room gave up the ghost and we reported this to main reception. With daytime temps in the 30’s it’s an understandable necessity. We can’t thanks the hall porter enough who took it upon himself to secure us another room and return to us our comfort.|When packing in the early hours of the morning for our flight we noticed we had a visitor. A bedbug crawling across the sheet. We had thought our skin irritations were mosquito induced but now it seems clear that this was not the case.|Have to give a shout out to the cleaning staff who did all they could battling against the tide of neglect to keep the rooms looking as good as they could. And always has a cheery greeting for guests no matter what the time of the day or pressure of their duties.|Sad to say that I will inevitably return to Colombia as I frequently do I cannot foresee a time when I will return to this ‘Malestic’hotel.|And that saddens me greatly as it could be a true jewel of tourism with a little care...
Read moreThis is a 3 star hotel and a 3/5 experience. Why:
• we booked two rooms. In the two rooms: toilets, tvs, even the phones weren’t working. tv was broken, showers missing handles.
• the place is old, it’s one of the oldest hotels in Barranquilla. The rooms are small, no nice views or natural light. The bathrooms are old and out dated. TVs are small.
• the decor they post in pictures is there, it’s nice and middle eastern, but it’s only three salons. Good to take pictures in. The rest of the hotel is not as fancy as those 3 salons.
• the pictures they post online make the place look much nicer than it actually is. A lot of the hotel is falling apart and they’re slowly getting it fixed. As we were staying there, there were men on ladders fixing stuff.
• the pool is small, and normal. Nothing extravagant. Like I said, this place is old so don’t expect anything extravagant. The hotel doesent have things like a pool table, common area, or anything else for activities.
• the service is a 3/5. Some of the female waitresses have a terrible attitude, it makes me wonder why on earth they would hire people like that. Costeño women tend to carry these type of distasteful attitudes. The men were far more courteous and with better attitudes.
• the food is a 4/5. I recommend the hot chocolate and chicken empanadas with suero costeño (sour cream) the lunch and dinner was good as well, with cheap prices. The breakfast is really good too, except the buffet. When they have buffet breakfast, don’t even bother going.
• the location is decent. No nice places to walk to for food. You have to take INDRIVER to get to the tourist places and fancy areas like BuenaVista.
In conclusion, I think it might be better to pay $300 dollars more and stay in a...
Read moreDue to a family emergency(grandmother passed away)my sister and I flew last minute to Colombia along with our one-year-old niece. Although we have family living in Barranquilla we decided to stay at the Hotel Majestic in order to be more comfortable during our stay.We had several family members fly from New York and stay at the hotel as well. They were very accommodating in placing us all on the same floor. On September 13, my sister and I arrived at Majestic Hotel past midnight and the front desk clerk was more than helpful and accommodating and explaining their discount for visitors with proper IDs. From the minute we stepped in we knew we had made the right decision. Thank you Hotel Majestic for a great stay on a last minute trip!
