Hotel La Bayka Ecolodge — Hotel in Chocó

La Bayka Ecolodge is a unique paradise. We spent 5 nights with my family of 6. Kids age 13, 16, 17, 24. Waterfall excursions were led by the lodge employees. They showed us some very unique places. We did a lot of hiking up rivers to waterfalls, so good water shoes that rocks cannot get into are a must. Food was excellent and filtered water was available to refill water bottles. All food was made with filtered water. Whale watching in July was a success. We actually went twice and saw many breaches. We did an excursion to JOVI to canoe down the river. The owner, Lisa, of La Bayka will help arrange excursions she is very caring and helpful. You must know some basic Colombian spanish, it is different than our American/Mexican spanish. We took 30L backpacks. We could have done 40L, planes will only allow 10kg bags. Don't use a suitcase. One of the most memorable vacations. I would love to go...

First had to exit boat and wade in as there is no pier. ||||First room was more than a quarter mile from the dining area. That’s OK except when it rains (likely every day) or if the tide comes in and there is no trail so you wade through the surf. ||||No hot water. ||||Shower is a PVC pipe in the ceiling. ||||Fish every meal. No selection. ||||No drinking water in the room. Had to request a flash light. ||||Whale watching was not really eco tourist as the John boats chased them for 1 1/2 hours. Not cool. ||||Oh yeah we had to carry our own luggage from the airport down a muddy street and wait over an hour for the launch. Same lack of help on the return.||||Never again. ||||Can’t do less than one...

What a magical place! It's literally the definition of paradise. Very comfy rooms, large, in a beautiful setting, the outdoor shower makes you feel connected with the nature, the service by Elizabeth and the other hosts is impeccable, they help you with the activities and made sure you have a great stay. They have a local garden where they pick their food. It's located right in front of a beautiful and long beach. Can't wait to repeat the experience of visiting here and staying again...
