La Kuka: not cheap but worth EVERY SINGLE PESO SPENT. We stayed there in July 2023.
La Kuka offers the ideal sea- and jungle experience for people who want to get away from it... Get the room right at the beach (conveniently located right above the bar so that your host Juan can introduce you to Biche and 'threaten' you with subsequent Salsa lessons...) in order to spot humpback whales cruising up and down the coast directly from your balcony's hammock.
Food is local and fresh and 'muy delicioso', drinks and tranquility abundant. The local staff is helpful and very friendly. The setting is geared towards sustainability and social responsibility.
What to bring: 1. fast drying clothes and footwear for the beaching at the hotel and the many excursions you will be participating in. 2. Snorkeling gear to admire the tropical marine life around the rocks 50 to 200 meters from the beach and to listen to the whale songs. Plenty of Pesos as many of the attractions and excursions can't be paid by credit card. Decent phone or camera gear as nobody at home will believe your counts of the perfect sunsets and the birdlife you encountered.
What not to expect: easy transfer from an to. A menu choice. A winelist. A room with AC or fan.
In short: this is the perfect tropical retreat - guys...

I’m sure the whales are great, but being there other times of the year lets you experience the remotest of the place. If you like nature, trees, birds, beaches, waterfalls, fresh fish in an authentic and environmentally friendly accommodation, you’ll love La Kuka and the Pacific coast around Nuquí. The three meals each day were all delicious and different each of the four days we were there. The kitchen itself is worth a tour. The staff will lead you on activities from the lodge or you can roam up and down the beaches to your hearts content. Or, you can spend hours in your hammock, just listening to the waves, birds, and if you are lucky, howler monkeys. If you are looking for an all inclusive, beach side five star resort, look elsewhere, but if you want the all immersive, jungle and beach experience, then you won’t be...
