We travelled here on the last leg of our three-week holiday in Colombia. The hotel could not be better. From start to finish we thoroughly enjoyed our time at Masaya. We stayed in a suite with mountain view. Not just any view, it was probably one of the best landscape vistas of any hotel we have stayed in anywhere in the world. Our room was a two-tiered thatched detached building with glorious views over the Magdalena valley. Downstairs had lots of seating, a lovely balcony, coffee maker, a large bathroom with great rain shower and constant hot water. Upstairs there was a very comfortable king bed with a second balcony and a wooden swing to enjoy the view. Good lighting throughout and lots of electric points both upstairs and downstairs.  All the rooms are either detached or semi-detached and located down gravel paths surrounded by a dense patchwork of trees giving total privacy.||There is a large central reception lounge and dining area. Lots of games for rainy day activity. As the hotel is located about 20 minutes’ walk out of San Agustin, it was more convenient to dine in during the evening. All the food we chose was excellent, well prepared and tasty. Plenty of options for breakfast too.||Lastly, we would like to add a kind word for all the staff. They were so friendly and helpful without exception. It was a perfect way to end...

Great place to spend amazingly relaxing time! We had a few days here just because of the hotel (we weren't interested that much in archeology) and that was the best decision. The hotel location is just great, views are stunning and it's soo quiet area so you can chill and relax. We really loved the design of the hotel, the bungalows and the interior of the restaurant was just so well done and realistic. Drinks were absolutely delicious (tried most of them but Pina Loca stole our hearts!) and the food was good. Breakfast could be a little bit bigger as it was just about for us but could not be enough for a big man (however I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem to ask for some extra food) We asked for some recommendations on what we could do around and got a lot of help (they have English speaking stuff in the reception so it was really helpful for us) and went for a day trip to see the waterfalls. They also can organise horse riding and other activities. Also used the SPA facility and went for a massage that was absolutely superb! Overall we had a great time and definitely recommend to everyone to visit, you...

I spent four nights at Masaya and loved every minute of it. The location is between town and La Chaquira, and the views of the Canyon and Magdalena are absolutely gorgeous. The rooms are clean and comfortable and I would recommend splurging a tiny bit for that canyon view room if possible. The staff are warm, friendly and helpful. The food at the restaurant is so delicious! Every single meal I had was so full of flavor and great portions! I also did a private horse back riding tour with Jose which was so knowledgeable and friendly, this is a must! Finally, the spa was also nice after a 12 hour bus ride.

I would highly recommend staying at Masaya when visiting San Agustín.

I would note for solo backpackers like myself, this is not the place to meet other travelers as it seems the majority of guests are families and couples. However, I still recommend it...

We've stayed twice at Masaya. Right now, it's hands-down the top hostel in San Agustin. It's located off a major road that leads in/out of town and walking distance to town and archeological sites. It in a safe, quiet, secluded area. There are a few homes nearby, but no other commercial property. The service is friendly and attentive. People at the front desk are knowledgeable about things to do in the local area. Overall, we had a wonderful stay. Since we've stayed twice, we wish there was a little more variety and choice on the menu. But we made due. One more observation: On our 2nd stay we noticed the kitchen where guests can cook their own meals had been removed. So...bring your own food (there are plenty of grocery stores in town and you can store at least some of it in the hostel kitchen (rooms don't have fridges)) or prepare to have what's on the menu. ☮️
