El Refugio Minca — Hotel in Magdalena

I stayed here with my buddy in a 2 bed room. The space was adequate, but the room was a bit too spartan for the price. ||The room had 2 full size beds, a mini fridge on the floor, and a crude set of unfinished wooden shelves. ||The bathroom was small, the toilet was loud and constantly leaked onto the floor. I let them know right away, but they did not fix it while we were there. ||The mini fridge did not work very well and could not be adjusted, BUT the A/C was phenomenal - a necessity in Minca. ||The pool area was nice and looked exactly like the photos. The hammocks were clean and comfortable. The pool was about 5.5ft deep, which is deeper than most Colombian pools. The pool water was clean and refreshing.||The owners are very nice. ||The location was near the town center, but still a 6min uphill walk away. This meant it was quiet at night and afforded a small view of the mountains from the upper floor / restaurant area above the pool.||Neither the bar nor the restaurant opened during our stay, but we were kindly reminded at check-in (and it is stated in the description) that breakfast was not included. This was fine as there's plenty of food to be had in town.||It's ok if you just need a place with A/C and hot water. But I would probably try my luck elsewhere...

My family and I are visiting from the US and had a wonderful stay at El Refugio. Francisco, the owner and I communicated via WhatsApp to coordinate everything. He was extremely helpful and made recommendations if places to visit. Once we were here, he put us in touch with a gentleman with a 4x4 that took us to the places we wanted to visit (great tour guide!). The hostel is very clean and inviting. The air conditioner is excellent. Beautiful pool and great views. Carolina and Pilar also helped to make sure our stay was great. We took advantage of the laundry/fold service at an extra cost. We also opted to have breakfast here during one our mornings. The food was made to order and delicious. I highly recommend this hostel to others visiting Minca.
