As we are traveling all over Colombia we were looking for something a bit more remote and nature-based to get a change of scenery from big cities like Bogotá or Medellín, and the sisters’, Doris and Cielo, wonderful place fully delivered! The rooms are clean, cozy, and down-to-earth: very authentic when it comes to what you‘d expect from a farm that is a bit further off the grid from Salento. From the moment we arrived we felt welcomed and taken care of. Doris helped plan our days and whenever we wanted to go to Salento she organized a familiar taxi driver (Julian) to get us into town (for free) along the rocky side road that leads to Finca La Playa. If you come with your own car be aware that the road the the finca is a bit of a challenge! Julian also ended driving us to other activities around the area and to the airport for a good price and we didn’t have to worry about managing transport ourselves. The included breakfast is very good - you get a little buffet with some fruit, cereals and coffee (coffee and water are out and free all day), and an egg-based amazingly tasty dish usually accompanied by home-made bread variations and arepas. You can also get lunch and dinner there and we would definitely recommend doing so, Cielo cooks amazing local dishes and we never went to bed hungry! Doris further organized a horse excursion for us with the farms own horses which was amazing! We left right from the farm and went to a high-up view point and to waterfalls. 100% worth it! Cocora valley is also not far away and can easily be reached either with Julian’s help or with Willy Jeeps from Salento! I cannot stress enough how amazing, friendly, and welcoming Doris and Cielo were. They both understand great English so we got away well with them speaking in Spanish to us and us answering in English. We hope this little slice of Colombian heaven will bring joy to you as well - we‘d definitely return in...
Read moreI want to start by saying how absolutely incredible my stay was at Finca la Playa. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with open arms by Doris, the owner, who is such a kind soul! The property is huge and is beautiful! From the neatly kept grounds to beautiful outhouse to hang out or sit in a hammock. There is a beautiful garden, lots of pets from cute dogs to cats and even a parrot that talks! Beautiful garden in the back and a nice outdoor seating area! My room had incredible views of the area and the porch was so thoughtfully decorated with memorabilia! The breakfast each morning was delicious! Everyone on the property was so kind and helpful. Again, I felt like I was staying with family while here at Finca la Playa. I would also like to add that they have horses which you can hire a guide to take you to a beautiful overlook and a waterfall + a swimming hole, excellent experience! The property is located about a 30-40 minute walk from Salento but Doris is also helpful if you’d like a ride to the city.
I also want to address the negative reviews because all of it is false! Those claiming that the property charges them to pass through their property to waterfalls. First, it’s their property and many places in Colombia do this - are you really going to cry about paying $1? And also, going through finca is NOT the traditional way to the waterfalls so DO YOUR RESEARCH before complaining!
For those of you looking to relax and experience the nature of the region, Finca la Playa is the place to be! I wish I could have more time at this...
Read moreFinca la Playa is a very nice option, if you want to have a real „farmlife“ experience during your stay in the Cocora Valley. First of all Doris is a fantastic host (i would rate her 6* if possible) and did absolutely everything to make our stay as comfortable and great as possible. She made us feel like a part of the family and helped with everything to make our stay a great experience, such as organizing transportation, trips and great food and drinks. Besides trips to Salento, coffee farms and the Cocora Valley, i can recommend to discover the area arround the finca incl. viewpoints and waterfalls on horseback with a guide, which was absolutely great (no experience required). The rooms are rather simple but very clean and equipped with good working hot showers, which is not always standard in Colombia. The breakfast is individually and freshly prepared and includes hot drinks, natural juice, fruit, eggs, bread, muesli and joghurt and differs every day. Please note, that the Finca is located about 1.5km km away from the main road to Salento and only accessible via a gravel road (4x4 not required). The finca offers transportation to Salento, which is a 10 min drive. All in all Finca la Playa is the perfect place, if you want to stay at an authentic finca in the middle of the stunning landscape of the...
