I was looking for a tranquil and rustic retreat in the Eje Cafetero from which to explore the marvelous paisaje with its mountain vistas, tropical flora, and excellent good. Mountain Trout is a local specialty that is especially delicious along with a number of local products.
The Rancho San Antonio is located only 10 minutes from the entrance to Salento (below, not at the top of the hill) but it is like another world. The lovely facility is perched on a hill overlooking mountains and lush forests adjoining a local coffee finca. It is beautifully maintained, clean, and well organized. An quiet! The spacious rooms are well appointed with individual bath/shower (hot water), cable television, and WiFi. Mine had a wood burning stove. There is also a pool and turco on the property.
The proprietors Jeff and Luz Marina Hausser are on hand to offer guidance, attend to your requests, and prepare breakfast and a limited menu until 9pm. Jeff speaks English and they are both very helpful and friendly, but never intrusive. The hotel only accepts a maximum of 23 guests.
From the Ranch you can easily visit the heart of Salento (15 minutes up the mountain) and from there you can get to the Valle de Corcoro in another 10 minutes. Finlandia is about 30 minutes away toward Pereira. There is a working organic coffee producer next to the Ranch (Aurora farm) and you can take a lovely tour of the coffee plantings and all of the facilities for making the coffee. Brian, their son, is available to serve as a guide if you want to take a hike to a nearby waterfall (45 minutes).
If you are looking for a quiet and scenic getaway in the Eje Cafetero you cannot do better than Ranch San Antonio. Highly...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed for 2 nights in February 2020, and we highly recommend Rancho San Antonio to anyone looking for a beautiful, peaceful, well appointed place to stay near Salento (which is only a 5 minute ride away). Jeff and his wife, Luz, were wonderful hosts who clearly take pride in their unique property, as they should. Jeff greeted us at the gate with a smile that never went away. We stayed in a junior suite with a king bed, which was nice and firm. The room was clean, large, and well lit, and the shower was hot. From the the moment we arrived, Jeff served us a seemingly endless amount of espresso. Breakfast was healthy and tasty, with the fresh juice blends serving as the highlight. Jeff also took on the role of concierge, coordinating taxis to bring us to Ocaso Coffee Farm, Salento, Filandia, Cocora and Pereira. He even had the taxis take us to his favorite restaurants in the area, and they were definitely good recommendations. We were the only guests for our Wednesday/Thursday stay, but Jeff and Luz made sure they had the hot tub warmed up and ready to go both nights. When I had to take time to do some work, unexpectedly, Jeff coordinated a 1 hour facial and 90 minute massage with his on-call spa service for my wife, and she loved it. While I worked on the veranda, with a view of the cloud covered mountains, Jeff brought cup after cup of espresso, without me ever even asking. It was fantastic. This isn't a bustling hostel, so go elsewhere if that is what you are looking for. It's a place designed for relaxation. My wife and I would stay here again in...
Read moreWe stayed at this property for 4 nights recently. The owners are very kind and welcoming people as mentioned in other reviews. The property itself is fine but lacks any communal spaces for sitting. For our time it was particularly rainy, and without any other seating options we could only sit inside our small room or one a single wood bench. The hot tub was nice but only open from 8-10pm. For meals, a simple breakfast was included daily which was fine, lunch and dinners were provided a couple times when we requested and these were good, otherwise you need to take a trip into Salento to eat which is only reachable by car. For the driver used by the finca that added about $15 a night for the round trip transport. ||The property is currently undergoing renovations which I think will address the main issue we had of having no space. Until they are completed however I think the price per night is unjustified in...
