The highlight of our trip through Colombia – Feeling like being at home
It has been pretty hard & emotional leaving the reserva as we had an amazing & unique time here: relaxing hours in the hammock observing the cows on the field & parrots in the palm trees, amazing breakfast at the veranda with the best chocolate I ever had. But what made our stay that special were the people, Tata & the horses:
It has been a pleasure meeting Diego, the owner of the reserva. We enjoyed the time learning something about his country and story. He knows how to make his guests feel at home – due to his warmth we had this feeling right from the beginning. The team around him embodies the same values – everything is done to make your stay as comfortable as possible.
Then there is Tata, the Golden Retriever, you just need to close her into your heart. She made our stay as well unforgettable.
When people ask us about the highlight of our three weeks travels through Colombia, we both give the same answer: the horseback riding with Diego. I need to add that my boyfriend has been maybe three times on a horse before and has not been a big fan. However, this experience has been that unique that he thought about taking riding lessons back home.
As it was still rainy season, we started our trip while it was raining heavily. However, this did not bother us at all – the adventure started with climbing the mountains with our horses, crossing cattle, enjoying breathtaking landscape, drinking wine and eating sandwiches on the top (delicious!). Overall our trip took about three hours. The horses are just great so that all of us (even the ones never been on a horse) felt 100% well and safe. I did already many horse trips in different countries and do horseback riding back home – However, the experience with Diego is far away from the ones before & I highly recommend it to everybody.
Diego & team, thank you so much for this great stay. We are already looking forward visiting you again.
Have a Merry Christmas & a great year...
Read moreWe spent nearly a week at Reserva Guadalajara, and it was a great experience. You stay on the owner's 750+ acre working ranch, which has been in the family for generations. The property is incredibly beautiful, the rooms are comfortable, and the food and wine selection is outstanding. The staff is helpful and attentive. An added plus is the host's intimate knowledge of the area. He was able to direct us to things to do that suited our interests. We hiked, visited waterfalls, looked at hummingbirds, and checked out the famous palm trees. ||||The horseback riding excursions available from the property are not to be missed. Even a neophyte like me, skeptical at first, was eager to embark on a second, more ambitious tour, after the first two or three hour session was so much fun. My wife, who is a seasoned rider, warned me that I would be tired and sore after the first ride. I was not. She attributed the fact that I wasn't to the unusually comfortable saddle. (She now wants a saddle like that one). As pointed out in some of the other reviews, the horses are extremely well trained and perfectly adapted to the mountain trails. You just sit back and enjoy the views, maybe taking a break to hike into the cloud forest. ||||We are so glad the we stayed at Reserva Guadalajara! We met guests from Colombia, Chile, Belgium, Switzerland, Hungary and USA. This is a place where farm life and luxury coalesce into something magical. ...
