Hostal Casa en la Ciénaga — Hotel in San Onofre

A brand new (march 2022) hostel with a view on the mangrove. The owners are extremely nice and helpful. Though if you stay, be careful if you are on the ground floor, because of the tide, it can be quite smelly. Bugs can visit you but that's pretty normal and I don't blame anyone for that. The rooms are not "closed", I mean they are 3 solid walls out of 4 and the 4th wall is a sliding metal panel, so you have to keep it quiet, and there are no windows, it's some kind of wood panels. Fishermen or neighbors can wake you up at 6 or party until 1 or 2am. Bathroom is ok, but the ground get super dirty and messy because it's super white and you have nothing to clean it by yourself. There's a lack of mirrors too. WiFi works well. Shared kitchen is pretty nice and you have a nice view on the mangrove. It's a yes though, for a few nights it's pretty cool. Great location, this side of Rincón is definitely the best for the cleanest beach (the other side/entrance side is less maintained unfortunately...). The view from the hostel over the lagoon is great. The shower had only very limited water, no pressure and no warm water... Which was a pain... They said they had water restrictions "this week" but I believe the sign is just always there, as it rained so much that week that the tanks must have been full! The night was a big rough, the room had no window so with other guest we felt a bit lost when waking up, in the dark. The mosquito net was welcome! Great addition and thee rest for the room isn't really insulated. Mosquitoes though didn't go all the way to the room, but be careful at the check-in area ! That's...

I was really impressed with this hostal. The rooms are lovely, and for only slightly more than nearby hostels (we stayed in the place next door also), the quality upgrade is amazing. Private room with views over the water, 24 hour aircon, mosquito nets, a good outdoor kitchen and friendly staff. 50m walk to the beach. The 'cold' showers were no problem, given the temperature outside. I would stay here again. This place is more like a relaxing hotel...
