I stayed here for 1 night during my solo bicycle tour through Colombia. In order to obtain a better idea of local accommodation standards and costs, I waited until I had left Colombia (after staying in 70+ hotels and hospedajes over nearly 3 months) before writing this review. I speak Spanish and was therefore able to communicate well with my host(s).||||The Hotel Cacique Real was not good value, although I liked the two young ladies in charge. Compared to my other hotels in Colombia (including those in tourists areas such as San Gil, Santa Marta and San Agustin) it was worth less than half of the 90 000 they charged me. The breakfast was nothing special – perhaps worth 5000 COP. The staff were friendly.||||The courtyard was noisy with car alarms going off (over several hours), shouting and other disturbances. The room lacked easily accessible 110V outlets. I had to drag the heavy bed away from the wall and use my extension cord to access one outlet. (Another was high up on the far wall behind the flat screen TV. The third was in the bathroom). The bedside table lamp did not work. The room was small and had one small window which looked onto the courtyard. Wi-Fi and lighting were so-so.||||Overall, the Hotel Cacique Real was possibly the worst value of any place at which I had stayed in Colombia. If I hadn’t been exhausted after my stressful bike ride from Bogotá and my subsequent tour of the Salt Cathedral, I would have looked elsewhere. I had left it too late and it was already dark then I arrived.||||My rating: 2/5. Location as measured with my GPS: 5.022726, -74.005727||||Note: The Salt Cathedral was disappointment. It was a barely disguised tourist trap, the sole aim of which appeared to be to earn money. It wasn’t even a true Cathedral. Easily the worst tourist place I visited in Colombia. (See my TA review). |||| “El Santuario de Las Lajas”, Ipiales, was the opposite: it had an ancient religious foundation, was located in a scenic gorge, and was free. Highly...

Read moreSpent one night here and I was very pleasantly surprised. The staff is extremely friendly and quick to help with anything. The jacuzzi (which was an unexpected surprise) wasn't working. A quick call to the front desk and he was there within minutes to try and repair it. He couldn't but got on the phone with someone who walked him through the repair. 10 minutes later it was fixed. The room was clean and the bed and sheets were as comfortable as a high end hotel. The entire hotel is decorated very nicely. With cool accents everywhere. Don't hesitate to stay here it is a great value for your money.||Thank you to the staff for the great service and...
