If you stay anywhere in Drake Bay, make it Miriam's Cabinas! Miriam and her family have gone to great lengths to make sure that their guests feel very welcome and are very well taken care of. The whole family is genuinely caring toward their guests. Even the youngest member of the family who is 2.5yrs old takes part in making your stay welcome. My room was spotless and cleaned every day. The water pressure of the shower in the spacious bathroom was excellent, and while there was hot water, I didn't need it as a cool shower was more refreshing in the heat. The rates of the rooms and the restaurant prices were significantly lower than other comparable places that I priced in Drake- this family is more concerned about the quality of your experience than taking you for every cent you have. There were two fans in the room that kept the temperature comfortable at night and mosquito netting for the bed. And the hammocks on the shaded front porch provided a relaxing vantage during the day to view the birds and butterflies that came right up to the door. The cabinas are only a few minutes walk from the beach and about 10 mins walk along the beach to downtown Drake. Miriam's daughter Maureen in particular provided a personal touch to my stay and was so helpful in arranging tours, providing many helpful details about where to go and what to do. She even arranged for a bus trip to Puerto Jimenez. Her brother Michael also arranged for a private mangrove tour at the last minute for me with an excellent guide. I will miss my stay at Miriam's and will certainly go back again if I'm...
Read moreI've never written a bad review but this definitely deserves one. We booked a tour through them which they said would start at 6.45. We asked them 3 times if this was the right time because they screwed up the time the day before also on another tour we booked but without any harm. They confirmed it was 6.45. We arrived at exactly that time but apparently the boot's departure was at 5.45 and we were too late. We were really sad we missed the tour since it was our last day at the region and couldn't rebook. But what really flabargasted us was that they said it was our fault and they couldn't refund our money. Myriam was totally playing us and the husband who misinformed us hid in the back. Keep in mind that they don't speak English at all so arguing with them was very difficult. After about an hour of stalling and lying to us they refunded half of our money. The other 80 USD we lost due to their screw up. Also there were cockroaches in our room, which doesn't even bother me that much, given you're in the jungle, but it's just you should know. Probably if everything goes well you will find it a nice place with friendly people like most reviewers here. Just know that if anything goes wrong that they probably will be dishonest about it and so better book something else if you...
Read moreWe had a "deluxe" room, which was not too bad, but we have had way better in Costa Rica at the same price. + there is an extra fee of 5$/ night to use the airconditioning.||||As previously mentioned by my boyfriend, Steven, the real trouble started when we booked our excursions through this hotel. Long story short: they told us the tour to Sirena station would start at 6:45, it was actually at 5:45, so we missed the boat and did not get to go there, since it was our last day in Drake Bay. As if this wasn't bad enough, Mirian and her family kept denying they gave us the wrong information and did not want to give us a refund. As you can see in the picture I added to this review, they even wrote the time of the tour on a whiteboard above the reception. It clearly stated in RED letters: "Tour Sirena: 6:45 AM". When they realised their mistake, they quickly wiped it off and wrote 5:45 over it in blue letters. After 3 hours of discussion they gave us back only half of our money. The staff doesn't speak a word of English (except for their daughter, but she was never there after our check-in).||||80$ down the drain, we did not get to go to Sirena Station, wich was the reason we came to Drake and we ended our vacation in Costa Rica with a frustrating argument.||My advice:...
