A perfect and quiet little mountainside lodge. The weather didnât permit us to see the volcano from our room, unfortunately, but we still really enjoyed our time there and got to use the jacuzzi for a peaceful morning bath surrounded by nature. The woman who checked us in was so sweet and friendly. She made sure to tell us everything we needed to know about our room and the property and asked if we had any questions before leaving us to enjoy. The only negative I would like to mention is not about this lodge but about the staff at the El Mirador restaurant nearby where the complementary breakfast is served. The restaurant was quite busy when we arrived, and we were asked to wait, which wasnât a problem. When we were seated, the waiter forgot to give us menus, which I understand can happen. Again, no problem. However, when he came to take our order and we told him we didnât have menus, his demeanor shifted as if we had done something incredibly rude. I could tell he was overwhelmed, so I tried to be really gracious and thankful for the rest of the meal only to hear him constantly mocking me in Spanish to the kitchen staff each time saying âno tengo el menĂșâ and âgraciasâ in a high-pitched squeaky voice as they laughed, thinking I couldnât hear them or understand Spanish. When I caught eyes with the woman in the kitchen, her smile faded and she wouldnât look at me anymore. I tried to calmly ask the server about it before we left, and he first acted as if he didnât know what I was talking about. When I repeated his words and he knew I had heard him, he tried to explain by very insincerely saying, âOh, Iâm sorry, the restaurant is very busy, and I had another situation outside.â I told him it was very disrespectful, and I didnât appreciate it, that he shouldnât assume guests donât speak Spanish, but that even if they donât, he should have the decency not to speak negatively about guests within hearing distance. He said sorry again, very insincerely. And how do I know it was insincere? As I exited, he said to the woman in the kitchen again, âBye then! Have a nice day!â and they laughed again. Not sure who would employ such an unkind and rude man to work with their customers on a daily basis. Hoping that this is just a partnership between the restaurant and Encanto and that theyâre not managed by the same person because our experience at the lodge itself was wonderful, but I would avoid paying for the included breakfast and take your business elsewhere when it comes to dining. In conclusion, stay at the lodge but avoid...
