What confuses me the most is how this place has any good reviews at all. I can only assume they come entirely from family of the owners. The quality of this “hotel” is hostel quality at best and I’ve stayed in nicer hostels. While sleeping was challenging because the mattress springs jabbed my ribs I also had to hold my bladder because our toilet didn’t work and the staff was unable to fix it. If this place had cost $40-$50 per night I wouldn’t complain. I’d say “that sounds like the right price for what we got”. On the plus side the breakfast was actually good and the lady that runs the place is responsive but...
Read moreCons - Major* no hot water! I have never been to a self proclaimed “hotel” with no hot water, be warned because that makes washing up after going to the beach very difficult. Also, like follow reviewer Seth says, there are probably hostels that are nicer and less expensive than this “hotel.” This also means no shampoo and body wash available, just regular solid soap bars provided. It really shouldn’t be called a hotel, the name is very deceiving. Also, entering and exiting is through a gated door that you don’t have the key to, so you’ll have to ring the bell, it’s safe but inconvenient.
Pros - location 3 blocks from beach and close to shops, has decent breakfast,...

We have stated other hotels in Puntarenas but we found Hotel Don Robert to be the best for...
