Hyatt Place San Jose/Pinares — Hotel in Sánchez

My husband and I stayed here for a business trip in November 2024. It is located in a mall, surrounded by shops and restaurants. The rooms are nice an clean and the food in the restaurant is good - better than most hotels. However, the best thing in this hotel is the employees! I got sick the second day of my stay. My husband asked the front desk for a recommendation to a doctor or urgent care. They offered to call somebody to come to the room at no charge. Five minutes later, two paramedics showed up, examined me and listened to my lungs. They set up a nebulizer and administered medication and wrote a prescription for additional oral medication. They were done within 30 minutes. The hotel employee stayed the entire time to help translate. I felt a little better immediately, took a nap and felt much better later that evening. We stayed in Costa Rica for an additional week of vacation that I was able to enjoy, thanks to their prompt medical attention (and the excellent chicken vegetable soup in the restaurant!). The manager of the hotel checked in with me to make sure I was doing okay and asked if there was anything more they could do for us. We have stayed here seven times in the last 3 years, over 80 nights, and the unfortunate experience is that the quality of service is constantly deteriorating. From the smallest things like room service taking towels but not leaving clean ones, or they don't refill the shower gel dispenser for days after it runs out, or 4-5 people not being able to go down for dinner whenever they want, but having to book in advance because the place is supposed to be full. I can tell you only our table was occupied most of the time, no one else was eating. The icing on the cake is that they have started renovating the dining room and until 6:30 in the evening they are drilling, hammering and dusting. You can hear the noise perfectly well on the seventh floor. They don't inform you of anything, you go down to eat and sit in the dust and the noise. They have organised a concert at 7:30 pm, and again they don't inform you about anything, they just tell you that you can have dinner in some meeting room. I feel that the paying customer is no longer the priority. I am very sorry for the direction, I really enjoyed...

Hyatt Place is located a bit away from the center, SJO, but nothing a short car ride can't fix, unless you're stuck in traffic... as it took me about an hour from SJO airport to get here. Once arrived, the hotel is located in a shopping plaza with a variety of restaurants, which is a plus. When you walk in the hotel, you have to walk up a flight of stairs or take the elevator to (L)obby to check-in. Once you get to the lobby and you cross the automatic doors, the registration desk is attached to the hotel restaurant and you'll be met with hotel receptionist/server? The check-in process was swift. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The shower had good water pressure. Complementary morning buffet had great selections and was delicious. Dinner was also delicious and some menu items were more affordable than what you would pay in the same plaza unless you were going to Subways or McDonald's. Staff were friendly overall.
