There isn't too much nice to say about this place following our stay, unfortunately. We booked through booking.com and were to pay at the property, we'd messaged the property to ask which currency they would prefer us to pay in to which they responded Colones in Cash. This was our last night in Costa Rica so we took out just enough for the night and a little more for a meal and a drink.|When we tried to pay, we were scorned and told that an additional 10% would be charged as an exchange to USD, on top of the 10% in VAT, the 14% service charge and they exchange we'd already paid by taking money out at the ATM. We did maths and came to the agreement that we would not be paying this additional charge because that's not what was quoted. The restaurant at the property was more dear than we had expected too, therefore we were going to pay for our meal with a bank card, we were trying to pay when the guy who checked us in yelled at us that we didn't pay the extra 10% and how dare we then pay with card (he even told us his disgust in us ordering food AND a drink. Rude). He stormed out of the room leaving us stood in disbelief that this was being addressed again after already being politely resolved. Another guest wanted to pay at this time too, so a colleague from the kitchen came to politely take his payment and then addressed us as though we were nothing more than an inconvenience. She argued with us for 20 minutes that we would need to pay extra for our dinner because we didn't pay the additional 10% in exchange when we paid for our room. We wish we didn't stay here and stayed somewhere else for our last night in Costa Rica. This caused so much distress and left such a bitter taste in our mouths. The following day, we had an additional 2 knocks on our bedroom door. I was so happy when our shuttle to the airport arrived, leaving this place behind.||The shuttle to the airport was lovely and we were very happy with the service for this part of...
Read moreThis hotel ruined our whole 10 day experience in Costa Rica. We arrived after 20 minutes in heavy traffic (on a Saturday afternoon) through a very narrow street where I saw nothing but three dark shabby bars. Turned onto a dark dirt road, rang the bell and waited forever for them to open (it wasnât working, the man said). Reception was ok until we were shown to our room. We had reserved and paid for a family room through Orbitz (âQuadruple room, 4 beds, 4 adultsâ; you can see a photo of that room in several booking sites), but they gave us a very small room with two double beds. When I told them about our reservation, the lady first said those rooms were for five people, but we were only four. Then she said they only had those in their âother hotelsâ. When I showed her our reservation she said they did have two family rooms, but they were taken. They offered to let one of our children stay in a single room with no air conditioning and no bathroom. When we refused, they offered a mattress on the floor in ours.
Description in Orbitz: âAll 15 air-conditioned accommodations feature living rooms (ours had a chair that had to be removed to fit the mattress on the floor). Beds sport premium bedding (ha!) and bathrooms offer free toiletries (one tiny piece of soap).â
Their advertised âstandard roomâ in Orbitz costs half of what we paid for. When we discussed leaving, the man said âhe had our credit card numberâ. Of course no apology was offered, nor did they accept giving us a partial refund.
We would have left if we hadnât been so tired and the neighbourhood hadnât looked unsafe. I locked our door and still couldnât sleep. I thought some insect might get into our daughterâs mattress, or if the TV had been installed with the same care as the rest of the hotel was kept, it might fall on her head. Aeroplanes didnât help either, nor did the roosters in the early morning.
Before we left, I checked that our tires hadnât...
Read moreThis was by FAR the WORST hotel Iâve ever stayed at. What a complete trap. First off, the room was supposed to be like $40 off their website and they charged us $70 instead. Okay whatever, since itâs our last night of our trip we were just ready to sleep. After being escorted to our room, we went to use the bathroom and there was a dead fly in the toilet, SIKE it was alive and flew out. After sitting in the room for a near 20 minutes we realized how the walls were paper thin and you could hear literally everyone and every conversation happening outside of our doors, as well as there was already stains on the bed. We decided it was time to leave after someone tried to open our door several times. When telling the front desk we wanted to leave, they said we werenât allowed. We called an Uber out of there and they let the Uber through the front door but then proceeded to TRAP us in the gate saying we werenât allowed to leave. They stated it was because of âthey wanted to offer to change the roomâ which we said no we wanted to leave. They also stated they needed to check the room. Which is completely understandable- but there was two of them and they werenât checking the room. Instead they decided to try to contact the owner of the property who was not available clearly after 20 minutes of waiting. As soon as the Uber driver saw the gate opened for someone else he stepped on the gas and we were finally free. Not only do they advertise the nice swan towels (which you pay an additional price for) but also a pickup to go to the airport (which was literally a taxi service you pay for from them!!). This was by far the worst experience I have ever had in my life. Donât even call this a hotel- it was a trashy motel!!!! Also the location was horrible and not that close to the airport! Overall a huge SCAM. Youâre best just staying at a nice Marriott or Hilton rather...
