I stayed at Las Cumbress to recover from two major surgeries. My room was very adequate considering the affordable price, plus 3 delicious meals a day were included. You don’t have to worry while you are staying here.
The owner picked me up from the airport. My room overlooked beautiful mountains. The staff helped me hook up my Roku to the tv so that I could binge on Netflix during my recovery. You do have to pay for air conditioning, but the weather in Escazu is very temperate, the 60’s at night, peaking in the high 70’s during the day, so I stayed comfortable with just opening a window. I got spoiled by the freshest fruit that I have ever tasted, fruit in the U.S. does not taste that wonderful. There is an open breakfast buffet, then lunch and dinner are prepared by the in house chef. There is a lovely patio and pool that overlook downtown San Jose. I enjoyed sipping hot tea and wading my feet in the pool, watching the storms roll in over the city and mountains. The stress melted away.
Now the most important part: the post-op care. I want to give my thanks to Annjuly, their nurse on staff. The day you get discharged from the hospital, she will stay with you overnight or just downstairs if you need anything. Bathing is usually difficult, and she is so kind with helping, I quickly did not feel embarrassed. She also helps with medications and heparin shots. The owner also knows first aid so when the nurse was busy, she could help with some issues I had with my bandages and drains. The room is cleaned and disinfected every morning so you don’t have to worry about post op infection. It is an older building, but it is clean. They also help arrange your doctor’s appointments, and you usually take an Uber to the doctor. But most Costa Ricans know enough English. The staff at Las Cumbress is all fluent in English. I do not know much Spanish at all, but this was not a problem.
I had two procedures and I do have known issues with general anesthesia, so I spent 2 weeks in Costa Rica. Many people stay 1 week. I feel the extra week really helped my recovery as flying is hard on the body, and everything was taken care of here, so there was no stress.
Since I have had massive weight loss, I will need more reconstructive procedures in the future. I would recommend Costa Rica to anyone considering cosmetic procedures. The cost with the surgeries and a mini recoup vacation came out the same as it would have in the U.S. for just the surgery alone. I only wish that I had come a few days earlier, so that I could so some sight seeing before my operations!
Just fyi, I had my operations done by Dr. Victor Urzola at the Cima Hospital in San Jose, also a wonderful surgeon and state of the art facility. Better than many of the places we have here in the states, and Costa Ricans are so kind and caring. They love to make you feel...
Read moreSummary: Las Cumbres at one time was quite nice but it has been years since it has seen any maintenance or improvements. The pictures on the website are decades old.||||The mattress was old and hard, it was on top of a bent frame. The frame was made of thin tubes, much like what you would find in very cheap furniture stores in the poorer parts of your town (think Big Lots furniture in the states). It was clearly Chinese and cheap. We were afraid to sleep together in the same bed. The pillows were thin, flat and offered no support, so bad that we bought two new ones after the first night. The blanket was a full size for our queen size bed. There was no couch or chairs, simply a cheap, worn futon. The television had three English channels: CNN and two network affiliates from Miami. ||||The remote for the room AC was nowhere to be found and there was no other way to turn it on. Generally the temps were nice when we stayed but at night we had no option but to leave the slider open and listen to the numerous dogs bark all night. The towels were thin and very rough, the worst I have ever felt. The in room safe did not function it was a minor irritation, though, to the smoke detector which had the battery removed.||||The common areas were at one time quite nice, nowadays a blanket covers the numerous cracks and cuts in the leather couch. All the cushions on the wicker were worn out and did not offer much cushioning. The exercise room was equipped with low end homeowner grade equipment from the 1980s. The pool was never skimmed in the week that we stayed.||||Breakfast was fine, although oddly there was an extra charge for meat. Lunch and dinner were adequate portions for an average women but wholly inadequate for an American male, I lost weight while I stayed there. The main course were generally casserole style and low in protein. The coffee was quite good, though.||||The Inn is isolated in a residential area with no easy access to town, Uber is an absolute necessity! The view was spectacular! The Inn was at 21% occupancy when we stayed and the owner indicated we could move rooms but somehow that offer was quickly forgotten and never...
Read moreHaving visited Las Cumbres about 6 years and being treated very well in a comfortable "homey" atmosphere, with home cooked meals, albeit local recipes ,most of which were unfamiliar to me, they were tasty and generous. This visit, from August 22nd to September 1st,blew me away. New ownership and staff ,under the direction of Xinnia , far surpasses the previous owners and staff. We had gone directly from the airport to the Dental Cosmetics CR clinic for a rather painful procedure for my wife.(More on that ,with my review of the clinic). We were taken from the clinic to the Inn where we were greeted by Xinnia and Chris (I soon learned that Chris is a brilliant Chef) and we were ushered into the dining room ,where my wife was treated to ,what she described, as a really great smoothie and I was given a very tender and lightly seasoned pork steak and a generous slice of spinach quiche. Our luggage had been taken to our suite by staff. We were told not to worry about checking in, that could done the next day or whenever we were settled in. A really different first day from our last visit ,already. The next 9 days we enjoyed ,prearranged transportation, to and from appointments, delicious meals, frequent checks on my wife's well being as well as mine , and I wasn't even a patient. On a couple of occasions I asked to visit the local Mercado and in the drop of a hat, xinnia, picked her car keys and we were off. The suite was very comfortable and airy, the bed welcomed long hours of rest for my wife. Chris prepared food, especially for her and several other gests ,with special dietary needs, all were delicious and recognizable. All the meals were included in the cost of the stay. In spite of the reasons for being there, it was most enjoyable and as comfortable as it could be if we were at home. Thanks to Zinnia, Chris and Faviola. Faviola ,by the way, wears many hats , She is a great breakfast cook, a superior server, and a very fastidious housekeeper. We have already reserved our next stay and excited to see all the new changes that are...
