We liked this hotel a lot. The rooms are attractive - ours had very high ceilings and a big window. The bathroom was also quite big with a high ceiling and excellent shower. The verandah is a very nice space for breakfast or for a self-catered dinner or lunch. Breakfast is filling though not stellar. We took advantage of the guest refrigerator in the covered outdoor kitchen. The pool is smallish but good for an afternoon dip. It's a 7 minute walk to Playa Ocotal which is a wonderful beach with calm, clear water and never more than 20 or so people. There is only one restaurant at Ocotal, Father Rooster, which we found shockingly overpriced with bland food and indifferent service. As we didn't have a car, we regularly taxid into Playas del Coco for meals and trips to the supermarket. The ride takes max. 10 minutes and cost 3,000 to 3,500 colones, depending on the driver.||Minor quibbles:||Our room was a standard double and the bed was exactly that - a double. It would be nice if some of the rooms had two twin beds.||There aren't enough hooks on which to hang towels and bathing suits. Some more would be nice.||Across the road, a neighbour has several dogs that roam their property (behind fences) and bark throughout the night at anything that moves. It didn't bother us as we faced in the opposite direction and slept with the window closed and the ac on. I assume the management of the hotel has not been able to convince the neighbour to better control the dogs.||Overall, Hotel M & M was a very good experience and I would...
Read moreWe had a lovely week at this small hotel, which is a short 10 minute walk to a beautiful beach. The hotel rooms are simple but have what you need--AC, a fan, big windows for natural light, roomy shower--and are clean. The staff are friendly and helpful. There is a small but clean pool and an outdoor (covered) kitchen which guests may use. The room rate includes breakfast and it is welcome as there isn't anywhere else in the area. We used taxis to go into Playa del Coco to eat at restaurants and shop at the supermarket. All hotels which cater to beach holidays need racks for drying your bathing suit/s, this one included. And I've yet to find a hotel with enough hooks in the bathroom for dry towels, wet towels, fresh clothes, old clothes. But that's a minor quibble. One day we took a taxi to Playa Hermosa which was also beautiful but much busier and noisier; we came back appreciating the quiet and sparsely populated Ocotal. We enjoyed our stay and loved the beach and would go back. We were, I should note, lucky to have rooms on the opposite side from the neighbour with dogs which bark on and off all night. We did hear the howler monkeys once or twice at night but I slept...
Read moreI LOVED this hotel! It is so cute. I think about eight or ten rooms but it's quaint. When I arrived, there was no one there but me, ha ha, but then the front desk attendant arrived, checked me in, and I got to exploring. The grounds of this hotel are lovely and well kept. The pool is pretty awesome too considering it was maybe 93 degrees while I was in there. There is a great restaurant down the street called the Rooster or something like that but it has great food. Right next to the restaurant is a stunning beach with black sand and great waves! The hotel was clean and free breakfast was served every morning and was yummy! I stayed three nights and the first night, it was just this lady and I at the hotel. The second night, again, it was just us. The third night, a couple and a family of three came. You are given a wrist band when you arrive and are accounted for which made me feel safe as a solo female traveler. all in all, I liked it here a lot. I would definitely come back! It was a great experience and the price,...
