Soluna Beach Bistro is excellent in every way. Tucked into one of the most beautiful bays and on one of the most lovely beaches in Guanacaste, it’s hard to find a restaurant in a more scenic setting - and certainly rare to find a restaurant this good in a setting so scenic. The concept here is farm fresh & ocean fresh, with their creative inspiration derived from the natural beauty of Costa Rica. The vibe is casual enough that you’ll feel comfortable coming in off the beach or from the pool at breakfast and lunch, while dinner feels more upscale and is an opportunity to dress a little nicer - but certainly isn’t necessary…and there’s bar seating as well. We live just above Bahia Pez Vela so I’ve been lucky enough to enjoy 20+ meals at Soluna since they opened in November ’23 (making this review waay overdue). I’ve had a good sample of breakfasts, lunches and dinners, in different seasons, dining-in and taking out, solo and in parties up to 10. Each and every experience has been great and I always leave thinking what a huge asset Soluna is to Ocotal and how fortunate we are to have a restaurant of this quality so close to Villa Amor Azul. Marbely, Heison (at the bar), Ormond, Yvonne, Kevin and Esmerelda & Giselle, the most amazing camareras y la gente simpatica ever! - and everyone who works so hard in the kitchen, makes sure that every experience is fantastic. The warm and genuine greetings, the friendly and attentive service, the sounds of the ocean and every delicious bite leave a lasting impression - I look forward to every visit. Soluna is a little off the beaten path but the rewards are great. They do have a parking lot, but spaces can be limited during high-season. Overflow parking would be up on the hill by the guard station as you enter the Bahia Pez Vela property. An option to consider to get more out of the trip is to purchase a day pass for the pool club - a portion of that price will come back to you as a credit for the restaurant. Everything here is delicious, but my perfect food day from Soluna would be: Breakfast: Salud Smoothie and the Huevos Rancheros - adding bacon Lunch: Ceviche & Pulled Pork Sandwich (Tempura Mahi Mahi Sandwich is a close runner up). Dinner: Sesame Crust Ahi Tuna (best veggies ever). And I’ll be liberally stealing bites from my friends and family. Thank you Soluna! + Check out Hacienda Blu / Aoi Sushi in Playa Panama and the Red Door in Tamarindo. Both by the same ownership group.

This beachfront restaurant at Bahia Pez Vela is a gem! Service and food is excellent and the location at the beach surrounded by a two level infinity Pool cannot be beat. For those who are familiar with Playa Coco in the Costa Rica area, many visit the neighboring beach restaurant, Father Rooster. This is also a good restaurant, but if you’re going to drive to Father Rooster’s and you haven’t been to Soluna Beach Bistro, it’s worth the extra half a mile drive to the next beach, as the food quality, service and atmosphere cannot be beat! We asked to have Chef Brian come to our villa and do an impromptu cooking class. The four of us had a fabulous time, and he was very gracious and had a great time as well. We asked for caesar salad and he showed us how to make fabulous homemade dressing, homemade hummus, which was incredible, as well as mashed potatoes with truffle oil and gorgonzola, and vegetables on the grill. Lastly, the fillet on the grill was finished in butter on the stove and was fabulous! Nothing but five stars for the Soluna Beach Bistro at Bahia Pez Vela.

We ate here for dinner on our last night of Spring Break and everything was delicious! We had a few orders from their sushi menu and everyone enjoyed their entree. They also have a small kids menu. I HIGHLY recommend the Sea Platter. We ordered it for 3 adults to share and it was enough food for 4 or maybe 5 people especially if ordering appetizers beforehand. The whole snapper was delicious and included mahi mahi and and ahi, along with grilled octopus, large shrimp among an array of roasted veggies and rice. It was so so good. The drinks were very good as well. Our server was wonderful and informative. The ambiance was very nice and chill ( we were there on a Sunday evening). Just note that you will likely wait longer than typical to get served your food but this seemed to be the norm no matter what establishment we ate at. We would definitely come back if we were in the area again. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner.
