Before I review the hotel I want to point out that I made our reservation using hotels.com, and after booking a nonrefundable reservation, I learned that the location of the hotel is not correctly shown on the map provided by hotels.com (picture attached.) When I made the booking I thought the hotel was located on the main street near the beach but after doing research on other sites I learned that it's actually located down the side street a few blocks from the beach. I will be notifying hotels.com of the issue and hopefully they will fix their map.||||The location of Luamey turned out to not be that big of a deal, it's just a few blocks from the beach on a quieter street within walking distance to everything. If you have a car there is a narrow parking lot that will roughly fit three vehicles and if you're not planning on leaving town you simply have to park the car and can literally walk wherever you need to go.||Our room was spacious with a comfortable bed, updated bathroom, fridge, coffee maker, and patio overlooking the pool. The grounds are nicely landscaped with several trees and plants giving you a very private feeling but unfortunately the wind gusts cause the pool to constantly be filled with leaves. The man cleaning the pool every morning was fighting a losing battle because each day he would start off by scooping the leaves and by afternoon it would be totally full again. On top of the leaves the pool needs some repair, the skimmers were not working and there are several areas of paint missing on the bottom which caused it to look discolored and dirty.||There is a super sweet kitty that hangs around the grounds who totally appreciated the cat food that I provided her with each day. If you're an animal lover maybe consider bringing her a snack or two and she will definitely be your friend!||With this place being a boutique I thought it would be quiet and relaxing but they have a bar/restaurant that is open to the public so that meant that loud music started around 7 a.m. and didn't quit until at least 10 p.m. There are speakers on the ceiling of the patio and we were one room away from the bar so we constantly heard the music both on our patio and inside our room. The first night the music stopped around 10 p.m. The second night there was a loud group of people in the bar and the music was loud and played until after 11 p.m. Imagine coming back to your room aiming to sleep and having to listen to the Macarena and Rhythm of the Night blaring through the speakers. We asked the next morning about the late and loud music and were told that the owner and some friends were there partying which I thought was pretty disrespectful towards the customers that had paid to stay there. If you're planning to sleep in, take a nap, or go to bed early and are a light sleeper you may want to keep this in mind. On night three the music again stopped at 10pm but started shortly after 7am. ||On our first full day there we put out a "do not disturb" sign but our room was cleaned anyway. The second day we didn't put out a sign and the room wasn't cleaned. I had to ask three times for beach towels but did finally receive them. We did not have any issues with hot water or the showers like others had reported. ||Breakfast was included in our rate and was ok, we had coffee, fruit, eggs, and dry toast (no butter or jam offered.) One day we chose to eat somewhere else just for a change. ||There are shops, restaurants, grocery stores, and everything you need just...
Read moreI got a recommendation from friends and following TripAdviser reviews I decided to stay in Luamey Boutique Hotel. That was the best decision I could have made. The hotel is walking distance to the beach where you can surf and have fun with the family. We originally planned to stay in Tamarindo for 5 days and then travel to other places in Costa Rica to do some activities like watch tortoises laying eggs, do Zip Line (Canopi), walk over hanging bridges, watch animals on their natural habitat, ride ATVs, horseback riding, etc. But guess what.... all this can be done near Tamarindo and Luamey personally took care of organizing all those activities for me and my family. We eventually decided to stay on Luamey for 11 days!! Amazing!!! The service is excellent. You get to have breakfast with your family in your own balcony (or patio) and the owners Myriam and Luis are always available to give advice and the activities to do. You can start the day having a Yoga session in the garden on the weekend and have Surfing lessons with an experienced instructor you can trust your kids with. In the evenings we were sitting on the Bar with other guests (from around the world) having some exotic drinks. From special Mojitos to great Ron and Scotch.
I recommend you to include Tamarindo as a destination in Costa Rica and stay in Luamey Boutique Hotel for an...
Read moreFrom the moment we were warmly greeted by Will when we first arrived, right through to the end of our 2 week stay, Hotel Luamey was everything we expected and more. Will continued to be very attentive throughout our stay, and he was always ready to assist. Everything was ready for us on arrival, and the place was as beautiful as advertised. We had a terrace room (highly recommend!) with a great view of the pool. Breakfast was included, always delicious, and always served with a smile by Rosa. What a treat to be served breakfast on our terrace every morning! Johnny did a great job in maintaining the amazing pool and beatiful grounds, and helping us by answering our multitudes of questions about the area and the country in general. We ate several times at the restaurant (Barefoot) and can honestly say that every meal was as delicious as the one before. It offered a great variety of unique dishes. The location was also great....centrally located in Tamarindo, and minutes walk to the beach, the shops and restaurants. Mimi and Luis, the owners, have done a great job with Hotel Luamey! We had great conversations with them in the evening while enjoying a drink at the bar. They truly are great people! It was an incredibly relaxing, rejuvenating, and all around great experience. We are already planning a...
