The only thing that saved our holidays during the stay in this hotel, was the location: it is situated on the Maslinica beach overlooking the beautiful bay of Rabac. The views to the bay (and from it when swimming) are just amazing.||||Unfortunately, everything else falls under the negative part. We’ll go point by point in a structured way to be more specific:||||Arrival: Parking is overcrowded - there's barely any free spot available, especially in the second half of the day. When asked for advice or help, the staff at the reception just said that we should look for parking elsewhere.||||Reception: Speaking of the reception and the check-in process: the staff were very unfriendly and not welcoming at all.||||Internet: During our stay Internet (Wi-Fi) wasn't working. We were told that they "were working on fixing it", but after 3 days it still didn't work. So we believe it's a permanent issue, and the technical issue was just an excuse.||||Lifts: There are only 2 small lifts for a huge facility and 7 floors (8 including ground) - it results in awfully long waiting times, even not at peak times. On most of the occasions we just had to walk down- and upstairs (with a stroller and bags!) because we’d have waited for over 10 minutes in vain. Just a chaos.||||Balcony: The balcony itself was nice and big, with a beautiful view to the bay. However, there's barely any separation from the other rooms' balconies - so you see all the people around, and they see you. Also from their balconies right into your room unless you curtain off the window: so you need to decide either against sunshine, or against privacy. Also, if anyone starts smoking - all the smoke goes to you as well from all directions. And as the hotel slopes down in steps as a pyramid, people from the upper balconies also see everything what you're doing on yours.||||Room: The room is rather big and offers enough space for a family. However, air conditioning wasn't working properly - with only barely some cooled air blowing through the vents even at maximum speed. Thus, sleeping was not comfortable, and opening door to the balcony wasn't an option on safety grounds - see the above point.||||Catering: That's the most disappointing part of our experience. We had a room booked with Breakfast. For some reason, people with half board can reserve tables for breakfast, while people with breakfast only - can't. So they're given tables through the sole discretion of a man who considers himself "king of the hill' in the restaurant and decides as he wishes - name's Dino. Technically, it can be considered a 'price discrimination' of the customers - we've never ever seen such a thing in other hotels that we've been to. Moreover, there’s an unwritten hospitality rule of “first come – first served”, which is obviously not followed there. To make the matters even more ridiculous, and as if in irony to the customers, there’s a sign at the entrance indicating the period between 7 and 8 in the morning as green – or the best time to visit. So when we came down for breakfast the next day at around 7:10, rightly so 95% of tables were still free. However, all the ‘good tables’ near the windows with good views were “reserved”, and this guy Dino refused us to select a nice table – instead seating us (with small children) right next to the buffet. I specifically observed: in ~40 minutes of our eating none (! Not a single one!) of those “reserved” tables were occupied – the dining hall was still pretty empty. So what’s the logic of blocking people from taking nicer spots? Right – no logic, just a stupid willfulness of one single person or bad management who doesn’t keep that person under control despite bad reviews. Last but not the least: unhappy with the seating, we didn’t want to stay there longer than necessary – as mentioned, being seated next to the buffet, we had people passing by too close to us – so we quickly ate and grabbed a couple of apples for the children, so they could eat them in the (relative to the restaurant) comfort of the room. And guess what? Again this guy, quickly ran over to us and in a rude manner prohibited us from taking the apples out! When we again explained to him that it’s only because he gave us such an uncomfortable place to eat, and we just wanted the kids to eat in a better environment, he said he didn’t care and that we should go buy apples in the shop – even though we paid for breakfast! Mind it: like with many other horrific features mentioned above, we’ve never faced anything like that in any other hotel around the world. Quite on the contrary – many people are usually all smiley and happy to give children special or additional treats – instead of taking the food away from them. I do hope that the hotel’s top management will look into that – and we’ll appreciate to at least receive a formal apology for the created inconvenience and abuse of our children by that elderly impolite man. You can also contact us here via DM.|| ||Compared to that, another thing about the restaurant sounds almost funny: once on the common plate with pancakes, we noticed that one was obviously bitten (there were traces of teeth there) by someone and put back. When we brought it to attention of one of the waitresses, she initially tried to argue, saying that it was only someone’s uncareful grabbing of the pancake. However, after our insistence, she finally took the plate away – though with quite an unhappy face, even if it’s her direct job. However, we didn’t take it personally as we felt happy we made it safer also for the other visitors – as it’s incredible in the Covid times if someone tastes food and puts it back on the common plate. But this example also shows a lot about the attitude that is dominant there.||||Swimming pool: last but not the least, it has several issues as well. First, the walls are lined with small pieces of ceramic tiles (probably not more than 2x2cm). However, as the pool seems quite aged, many of the tiles are missing, exposing the hard (and sharp) traces of the bonding cement – and once I heavily scratched my knee while getting out of the pool. In another place, the draining plastic coverage right outside the pool was fully covered in fungus – not sure if it was ever cleaned at all. And one day there was a strong wind from the sea in the morning, and we noticed a sun umbrella lying on the bottom of the pool because of that. However, almost 2 hours after the start of pool operation, it was still there – the staff didn’t care to get it out. A small thing, but tells a lot about the place.||||It’s probably our worst experience of all that we ever described here on Tripadvisor, and it’s difficult to write a summary. Well. As said, the location is magnificent. But the hotel’s organization spoils it all. Only the spacious room and nice view didn't let us put "Terrible" to this property.||||If you’re used to good (or at least respectable!) service, please consider what we wrote above when making your decision. Probably some apartment nearby in Rabac would be better – as the main attraction is the...
Read moreThe hotel is in a complex, and the area around it is picturesque. Our room was lovely but the heating was on, and no air conditioning provided. We found turning off the heat and leaving our door and the patio door open cooled things down. We slept well. The towels were changed daily, and the beds made up to a fashion. There were two duvets folded on both sides of a double bed, but not set out. Each evening we had to spread the duvets out before getting into bed. The bed was very comfortable and the curtains kept the light out. The first night I could hear loud music from the restaurant area, This went on until 23:30, fortunately this did not happen again for 7 days! The bathroom was modern, but the tiles on the floor in the room were potential slip hazards when wet, this was the case in the hotel as well. One evening somebody slipped over in the restaurant ,,and had to be taken to hospital. There was only one mains socket on the wall, and the fridge was plugged into another, There could be more mains sockets or USB sockets provided. Our grown up son had a single room which was much smaller than ours, but also it only had one mains socket. There is no kettle provided, so be sure to take one with you. The breakfast and the main meal in the evening were of high standard, and buffet style which we like. The cappuccino from the machines is good. It is rare nowadays to find a hotel that provides hot food, it was not Cordon Bleu, standard but well cooked and there is at variety of choices. There are vegetarian options, which our son appreciated The desserts were lovely as well!. Unusually we got our first drink of the evening in with the cost of half board, we could have wine, beer, or a soft drink, and had to present the card for our room each time. The indoor pool was OK, but had salt water in it. We tried the hotel next door, which we were told welcomed people to use their indoor pool which was chlorinated, this was lovely. The staff were lovely in the restaurant, as were the staff on reception, especially Sara was friendly and helpful. The hotel is near to the beach, and also there is a short walk along the promenade into the fishing village of Rabac which is very pretty. Overall a fantastic break, with good food, and also close to boat trips and walks. My son and I walked up the hill, through the forest up to Labin which is a medieval town on top of the hill it is a great walk if you can climb up rocks etc. I am 70...
Read moreI booked this hotel very last minute for a quick getaway for myself in a town I have never been to. What stood out as the very positive thing is staff, reception staff always smiling and willing to help, breakfast and dinner staff always nice, young man who helped with my luggage when I was leaving, etc. GPS had a hard time getting me to the entrance of the hotel: there are three hotels and a camp all bunched up together. Road signs were confusing and I circled three times before I found where I needed to go. Hotel could definitely benefit from clear, big signs with all the different hotel names and arrows guiding you. Also, one simply doesn’t know where to park nor where the reception is. I had to stop and ask multiple times with all of my luggage in tow. Very difficult to find the main entrance. Beach is close and probably very nice for families with children as it is sand. For me personally, water looked murky so I did not swim there but there seemed to be plenty of food choices in the area. Showers and changing booths were also available. You could rent water equipment as well as loungers with umbrellas. There is a little tourist train that runs all day which is great but perhaps having it run past 9:00 pm would be beneficial. All in all, this hotel could use lots of upgrades, from or fashioned keys instead of the key cards, to proper cleaning of showers, and providing more privacy on the balconies to its guests. It seems that there is plenty to do with kids (several swimming pools indoors and outdoors) but not a place for a couple or solo who perhaps might want a bit more intimacy. Again, great job on their customer service, keep up...
