We are currently staying at Bluesun Hotel Jadran for a week as a couple — our second visit after a lovely stay 4 years ago when the hotel was owned by TUI. Unfortunately, the change in ownership seems to have resulted in a significant drop in quality. While the building, furniture, and layout remain exactly the same, the level of service, cleanliness, and attention to detail has notably declined.
What happened to the high standards from before? A 5-star hotel should aim to improve with time and new management — not regress.
Some of our key concerns: • Cleanliness & Maintenance: Equipment and public areas (like floors and corridors) are not maintained as they should be. There’s clearly no consistent housekeeping or upkeep throughout the day — something we’d expect to be standard in a hotel of this category. Ice machines on every floor? Not working. Instead, we need to go to reception every time we need ice. • Lack of Attention to Detail: No one seems to be walking around checking or cleaning. Small touches that used to make this hotel feel premium are simply gone. • Beach Sunbeds – A Disgrace: We were shocked to find that we must pay extra for sunbeds at the beach — apparently because they’re “owned by an external company.” But let’s be honest: this is just a poor excuse. The hotel could easily reserve their own sunbeds for guests, like other resorts do. The result? Dozens of empty wooden beds, guests lying on towels or hunting for plastic chairs. It feels cheap, and honestly, it’s embarrassing for a place that claims to be 5-star. • Paid Parking: €9/day for parking despite high room rates and plenty of available space? It’s just another added cost that feels unjustified and off-putting. • Another surprising detail was that we were required to pay the full amount for the stay in advance — something quite uncommon for hotels of this category and price range, and not a very welcoming start to a supposed 5-star experience.
What’s still good?
The food is truly excellent — both breakfast and dinner are delicious and well-prepared, with enough variety and quality. Hats off to the kitchen team. However, even here the restaurant service could be more attentive — guests shouldn’t have to wave down staff for coffee or water.

We are about to leave with the impression that the hotel is still living off its past reputation and exterior image — but inside, things are slowly falling apart. If things have gotten this much worse in just 4 years, how will it look in another few?
Bluesun management, you need to wake up. This hotel has huge potential, a beautiful setting, and a legacy to uphold. But right now, it’s not worth the 5 stars it claims to have. A disappointing return — and sadly, one we won’t repeat unless major...
Read morePros: Nicely located Private beach with a Lot of available Sunbeds Lots of parking available You can bring a small dog Very friendly staff Very clean rooms The hotel does not feel crowded, we have been here end of august Fresh flowers all around the hotel Unfortunately we were not lucky with our luggage: nether check in or check out we had assistance, but we have seen, that normally the luggage is brought by the staff to your room, which is very nice I guess
Cons: Gym is very poorly equipped if you are interested in sports Food: sorry but I can not comply with other reviews. We had breakfast and dinner. Breakfast is still ok for Croatia, but dinner unfortunately ist only okay: The quality of the fish and meat is very poor. Although how it’s made: nothing is grilled, everything is only fried with lots of oil. There are no specials at all: think about it: you can only get fish on „live cooking“ - otherwise there is nothing available. No shrimp, no salmon, nothing. And „live cooking“ means „fry some fish in a pan“. It is a gamble on how good is the cook or how is the quality of the fish. Also the few vegetable dishes were rarely good: without any pepper, salt or spices. Desert felt like convenience products - fruits were delicious though. Salad bar is pretty decent though. Service in restaurant: to get refills you need to actively stop the waiters. And for every order you get the check right away, so you get the feeling to not drink anything more. That’s somehow awkward. Dress Code: I think it’s totally okay if people go to dinner with shorts, but people in FlipFlops and soccer Jerseys wearing Headphones ? Come on… SPA is small. Prices are very out of range: if the prices were even close to prices in Germany, we would have done all the Programm. But in this hotel some of it is 1/3 more of the prices, if even double the price. What are you expecting? Price range for drinks is fairly high. For lots of people it might not be attractive anymore to go to Croatia: just fly to Greece and save some money Be careful with you room choice: we had sea view which was quite ok (but ground floor level which was unfortunate). If you want a higher located room, you need to book a superior category. Other Rooms are on the backside of the hotel pointing directly onto the parking area. This must be really awful
All in all we would not recommend this place: we payed €250 per night without any...
Read moreTotal disappointment after a 7 day stay here:
The staff is unfriendly because they are overstretched. It's noticeable that the same employees work non-stop, from morning until night, just being rotated between different hotel facilities. This is especially evident during dinner when guests want moments of relaxation and enjoyment, but these are constantly interrupted by the clattering of cutlery and plates, along with frantic service and frequent pestering of guests for drink orders to ensure payment. Speaking of payments, while the stay for babies is advertised as "free," a charge of 10 euros per day is required for a baby cot. It's not about the 10 euros for the guest, but about the attention to the well-being of their most precious one. In 5-star hotels elsewhere, the treatment for babies is indeed special. Additionally about facilities for babies, there is no baby changing table anywhere in this 5-star hotel… Unbelievable… Internet doesn't work. Throughout all 6 nights, the connection was terrible on any floor... The sunbeds on the beach (which are significantly more numerous than those supposedly included in the price) are allegedly from an external provider, which might be a clever tactic for additional charges of 35 EUR per day for a set… Parking charge. For a so-called 5-star hotel where the room costs at least 320-350 euros, an additional 8 euros is just nitpicking and shows the management's penny-pinching for a property that supposedly carries 5 stars—truly disappointing. It's also important to note that the parking is overcrowded, with no space for pedestrians or especially for strollers with babies.
Message to management (and all those who will be considering this hotel): 5* represent an experience that one expects. It’s also noticeable that management is much more active in responding to reviews here, trying to manipulate potential new visitors by spinning the narrative that all the mentioned criticisms are untrue, rather than genuinely working on improving the service. From the first day, you can't shake the feeling of being deceived about the star rating because the experience here is an average 3-star... There are much more serious hotels and brands on the Croatian coast with fewer stars where we have stayed, and Blue Sun will no longer be considered for the future due to this very expensive...
