Maistra Camping Valkanela — Hotel in Općina Vrsar

Just spent a week at Valkanela Campsite - due to our own mistake, we had to spend first night in a mobile home (instead of our tent-caravan - we forgot the keys :), and we found it really difficult to get to the point where we could spend the night there. The staff was really un-cooperative, unwilling to help us out completely. Totally not what we would expect from a touristic destination. Not only they weren't willing to ring their co-worker in another reception (yes, there are two and there were just few minutes till they close and they sent me there running, cuz they are "not suppose to call to the other reception"). Also the customer care that we rang on our way there (when we realised that we're going to be really late due to heavy traffic), told us different (lower) price for a mobile home rent than we actually had to pay for next morning. And the price was 204€ for one night for the period between 10PM to 7AM 🙄. 2 adults and a 2 year old child. Also they wouldn't let us park our tent-caravan inside for that night and when I wanted to pay for one extra night for the pitch we had reserved 3 months in advance, they said it was impossible, because we need to check out from mobile home first and then check in for the campsite - and only then we can park our tent-caravan on our reserved pitch🤦 Not to mention overpriced food and unfriendly staff in a beach burger bar - our child has food allergies and they wouldn't give us correct information about allergens (!!!) - we had to inquire on our own (they said only potatoes are fryed in that oil, so we ordered french fries for a child. Double checked if they are sure and they said yes. We asked again if this same oil is used for chicken burger patty (child has egg and wheat allergy so it was hazardous and unacceptable to get him that) and they confirmed. Really?!? And when we cancelled that order, the cook would rudely say: "the idiots must be kidding me".) 😲 We are not comming back and would not recommend it if you want to feel welcome, surrounded with friendly people, pay fair price for what you get and spend a vacation without stress. P.s. the friendliest person in the whole campsite was a cleaning lady (i guess she has some Asian roots) from sanitary block 1, that was really helpful, kind and...

After 14 years of my traveling on campings, when I came on Valkanella, this one take the first place of all campings I was till time. Long side coast become no crowded even on full season, all activities is in the center, four tennis courts in the shade, always available, games for children right next door, trampolines, mini hockey, volleyball court, water equipment rental, cool bar with drinks and burgers, great seaside promenade in the bay, water playground, large pitches, evening artistic performances, marina, diving base, great restaurant also by the sea with great food and service, large swimming pools with probably chilled water, I miss it already and I will definitely come here more often, I am already making a reservation for my 3rd stay this year in September. There are also small disadvantages, charcoal grills are very bothersome, the smoke from the hot charcoal grill tarred and poisoned the air on the court until 10 am. I know it is a Croatian tradition but maybe with the times you should get rid of these charcoal grills, they are not healthy. The second minus is the price for the trampolines, 10 min for 5 EUR, 10 times a day for 7 days is 350 EUR for one child, it is definitely an excessive amount, maybe they could extend the time or sell passes. The third minus is a bit forced, but the LTE or 5G coverage is weak, I know, there is internet but it works poorly, it is sometimes difficult to work... Apart from that...

Toilet paper is for free! (But that’s about it). Expect to have your wallet out of your pocket at all times. On water playground is 12 EUR for 1/2 hour. Sunbeds on the premises are 20 EUR for a day, trampoline costs money, small kids playground costs money. Everything comes with a cost. This is a money machine with zero charm (sorry to say). Staff is mostly careless about most things. Example: a paddle board in the water outside the beach bar on deep water but within the proximity of the campground was floating around in relatively rough waters. A fair risk that someone unintentionally fell off it and was in danger. While notifying the beach bar staff this conversation transpired - Me: “Is there a lifeguard around - a board is floating freely and someone may be in danger”. Staff: “No”. Me: “Okay - what do we do then - someone may be in danger?”. Staff: “Nothing”.

Facilities: Are kept in pristine condition. Very nice. Restaurant: We tried the local dishes. Yummie and grilled to perfection. We waited more than an hour and it’s expensive. Plus glass which everyone would notice in the sand around the table. Beach: Man made. Okay’ish otherwise Water: A little plastic in the water but also fishes and decent underwater life.

Conclusion. Not for us. We won’t return but still had a nice vacation. It does appear to have it’s revisiting crowd though, so could be just...
