We traveled to Croatia—a country we love and return to every year. But this time, we made the mistake of booking this hotel. And that mistake cost us more than just money—it ruined the beginning of our holiday, forced us to leave early, and left us feeling deceived.||Here's what we were met with:||The elevator didn’t work.||At first, the staff said it was working. But when we asked them to try it themselves—nothing happened. Then a janitor was called, who also insisted it worked... until someone asked: “But does it open?” That’s when the truth finally came out: No, it doesn’t actually work.||It was as if nobody wanted to take responsibility, and instead they gaslighted both us and each other. They seemed to believe that if they say something works, tastes good, or looks fine—we’re supposed to accept that, even when the reality clearly says otherwise.||No air conditioning in the room.||We arrived in the middle of a heatwave with two kids, and the AC was completely non-functional. When we brought it up, the response was: “It worked yesterday.” As if that somehow made the unbearable heat more tolerable today?||We sat for a long time in the stifling room, sweating, waiting for someone to come fix it—but no solution ever came. Again, the same pattern: avoiding responsibility instead of solving the problem.||Their “solution”? We could move to another room for one night, and then move back the next day. This would have meant repacking and relocating twice during a five-day stay, while still not knowing if the issue would come back. It wasn’t a solution—it was a way of pushing the problem forward and hoping we’d settle.||No lighting in the bathroom.||The bathroom was pitch dark. Their excuse? You guessed it: “It worked yesterday.” We had to use a phone flashlight so our daughter could use the toilet in the dark.||The food was awful.||We ordered pasta bolognese and “pasta with meat”—both were overcooked, tasted old, and felt like they had been frozen for days. Genuinely unappetizing and impossible to eat.||A disgusting smell in the room.||Every time we opened the door, we were met by a mix of trash and old fish. Unbearable.||The building was falling apart.||Everywhere we looked: rusty AC units hanging from each room, cracked walls, rusty railings, decaying facades. Even the hotel’s star rating sign was covered in rust—a sad symbol of the complete lack of care and maintenance.||The beaches nearby were among the worst we’ve seen in Croatia.||We tried to rebook||Due to wildfires in the south, we just wanted to stay for two nights and move on. The hotel claimed Expedia doesn’t allow refunds. Expedia told us the hotel could refund if they wanted. Guess who “couldn’t do anything”?||We gave up||Not after several days—but after just a few hours.|We had time to check in, suffer through one dreadful meal, go through all the problems—and watch our children get more and more tired, sweaty, and uncomfortable, with nowhere to rest.||Instead of starting our holiday peacefully, we found ourselves in a room where nothing worked, no one helped, and every request was met with excuses or denial.||It became painfully clear that nothing here was designed to benefit the guests. From the staff’s attitude to the state of the facilities, it was all part of a culture where the priority isn’t caring for visitors—but maintaining a facade. A place where problems are brushed under the rug, and the guest’s experience is dismissed instead of respected.||My wife, who has never refused food while traveling, couldn’t take a single bite of the hotel’s meal. That says it all.||We packed up, left the hotel—and the money—behind, and headed to Zadar to salvage what was left of our vacation.||For just a few more EUR, we got a 100-times better stay in Zadar: a luxury apartment with a clean pool, a beautiful beach, and our own jacuzzi.|Don’t make the same mistake we did—especially if you’re traveling with children.||Conclusion:||We’ve road-tripped through Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia, Austria, France, and Italy. We’ve stayed in everything from simple guesthouses to high-end hotels.|This was the worst accommodation we’ve ever had.||I’m writing this review so that no one else has to go through what we did.|Don’t be fooled by the pictures. Don’t be tempted by a low price or a nice view.||If you value working basic comforts, safety, honesty, and a stress-free vacation, do not...
Read moreWe travel to Croatia every year and love it. But this time, we made the mistake of booking this hotel – and it ruined the start of our vacation, forced us to leave early, and cost us nearly €1000 without refund.
Here’s what we experienced:
• The elevator didn’t work. Staff insisted it did – until we asked them to try it, and nothing happened. A maintenance worker eventually admitted it was broken. No one wanted to take responsibility; instead, we were met with denial and excuses.
• No AC in the room – during a heatwave, with two kids. Their response? “It worked yesterday.” We were offered to switch rooms for one night, then back again the next day. That’s not a solution, it’s passing the problem along.
• No light in the bathroom. Again: “It worked yesterday.” We had to use our phone’s flashlight so our daughter could use the toilet in the dark.
• The food was awful. Both dishes we tried were overcooked, stale, and tasted like they’d been frozen for days.
• The room smelled like garbage and old fish every time we entered.
• The building was in decay: rusty AC units, cracked walls, broken facades – even the hotel’s star-rating sign was covered in rust, a symbol of the overall neglect.
• The beaches nearby were among the worst we’ve seen in Croatia.
• We tried to rebook due to nearby wildfires. The hotel blamed Expedia; Expedia said it was up to the hotel. In the end, “no one could do anything.”
• We gave up – not after a few days, but after a few hours. We checked in, ate one dreadful meal, saw all the issues, and watched our kids grow sweaty, tired, and restless in a room with no AC or light and nowhere to relax.
Nothing here was built to serve the guest. The pattern was clear: a culture of denial, cover-ups, and pretending everything is fine. Guest concerns were dismissed, and nothing was truly fixed.
My wife, who has never refused a meal while traveling, couldn’t eat a single bite. That says it all. We packed up and left – hotel and money behind – and drove to Zadar to save what remained of our trip. An expensive decision, but absolutely the right one.
• The pictures lie. Online, the hotel looks charming and fresh. In reality, it’s like walking into an abandoned construction site. Nothing works. The staff hides behind policies.
• The receptionist was friendly – and that deserves mention. But friendliness doesn’t help when nothing functions, the kids are overheating, and you’re out of options. A smile can’t replace basic safety, comfort, and responsibility.
Conclusion
We’ve driven through Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia, Austria, France, and Italy – and stayed in both budget inns and high-end hotels. This was the worst accommodation we’ve ever had.
Don’t be fooled by the photos. Don’t let a low price or sea view convince you to book.
If you care about working basics like AC, lights, cleanliness, safety, and honest treatment –...
Read moreThe hotel is nice, however I am not sure whether that is caused by the fact that we received the best room. The best room is on the upper floor of the hotel. The room which is a bit of cheap quality suits its purpose. The bathroom is relatively small and again suits the purpose for a shower. The terrace of the room is huge almost bigger than the room and the view from the terrace is of course spectacular. ||We did not tried the pool of the hotel however it is quiet small. In front of the hotel a small beach is located with sand. When we arrived the beach was crowded but still some space was remaining. The water is of typical Croatian quality. After 5 meters into the sea (about 1meter water depth plants (sea grass is growing). After 4 meter of sea grass your not able to stand and it looks like there is again a sand bottom.||Breakfast in the hotel was not perfect but satisfied. We also had diner in the hotel restaurant. Prices were normal and although some fish dishes were not available it was of good quality.||If you do not have too much expectations and you take the top room with huge terrace, you will have a great stay. However personally I would not stay longer than 2 days in the hotel. ||Parking of the car can be infront of the hotel or at the back. Since we had a relative long car we parked in the front. Regretfully someone scratched our car (most likely with parking or driving by). The hotel was very supportive in phoning the police, explaining the...
