Merit Park Hotel Casino & Spa — Hotel in Girne Belediyesi

I have stayed at this hotel many times over the past 10 years and its one of the best 'All Inclusive" hotels in Northern Cyprus. It also has a very popular Casino. During our last stay for 3 nights, I noticed that the service has suffered in the following areas which deducted stars in the review. 1) Casino customers are seen as more important than hotel guests and they have some priorities like parking and gazebos on the beach side tanning deck. The hotel has bad parking facilities. Customers had more space before. 2) Service to provide drinks during meals is poor. No staff is watching tables and you have to 'always' try to get someone's attention. This can be very annoying when you keep waiitng for a drink to be served. 3) Beds are very uncomfortable. Rooms need a serious renovation. The mattresses, the pillows and the blankets/duvets are very hard and the rooms are feeling hot. ACs are ok and do the job. Overall the food is very good and there is an incredible selection of food items as they service breakfast, lunch and dinner and have various other places that also provide unlimited food and drinks. The mini bar is also free and gets topped up every day. There is also tea time at the cafe bar near the lobby. Overall the staff are kind and polite and we didn't have any issues staying at the hotel. There is a nice sauna, steam room and Turkish hamam for men and women. The gym is adequate for a hotel as they have good quality cardio machines by Life Fitness Thiis is one of my favourite hotels but it needs some improvements to the service. Last year I could not fault this place but how things have changed! Being a 5 star hotel I do expect a high quality but it was found lacking in many areas this year. My experience did not start well as they are forever mopping marble floors and I slipped over on the first day! The signage was hardly visable and although I went to the nurse I was not happy with the lack of English. It is a 5 star hotel that I had a nurse googling translation on his phone. Further more I was offered a painkiller at a time and was in agony all week. Any one else would have sued. I requested a lower mattress due to my injury and photographed example as I do not think I was understood but they changed the wrong bed and I had to repeat the exercise. The rooms are currently getting refurbed and I was on floor 3 and was alarmed to get a notification saying they were fumigating the rooms ! We were covered in bites and were alarmed to be told they were fumigating as it meant there was a problem. The food is excellent and in plenty supply but the coffee lounge lacks any speed. I waited 25 minutes after ordering and then we had to reorder and the order was wrong. Another flaw is posting. We had wanted to post cards and had thought the hotel would kindly post them with their mail but we were told no. The only positive this year is the 2 girls - Lorette and Grace were saints. They were the ones who were constantly looking after us and they spoke great English. They should be recommended for their work ethic and they are great assets that they hotel...

This was my first time staying at merit park.

I don’t feel this is a 5 star and was expecting more. The food was very nice and a fair selection. cocktails were good only if made by benga the bar man.

The waiters were helpful but found they were very young and inexperienced, on a few occasions forgetful but tried their best.

Receptionists wasn’t great as they tried to charge me twice for food I had in the nargile bar on arrival which annoyed me so I had to prove that I paid via my online banking.

Rooms need renovating badly they are pushing a 4* if that. AC on some nights was non existent had to call the engineer out twice to fix the noise and lack of cool air. Overall Air con was poor corridors hot in the evenings.

The entertainment was shocking nothing for the teenagers until 8-12 at night the rest of the day no entertainment and the music selection is on repeat very poor 1* One night there was live music and they packed up at 11 yet again for adults is poor.

Spa and massage massage was very good the rest was standard really.

Overall I won’t be going back to merit park it is expensive for what you get. This hotel is for people attending the casino and that’s it. Would not recommend for families at all.
