Driving back from Kykkos to Paphos we decided we needed to stop for a late lunch. We slowed down in the village of Panayia and as we passed the large looking Oniro Restaurant, an old lady came out and started beckoning for us to come in. Hungry, we thought why not!||As we got into the restaurant, the lady showed us to a table on the terrace. The restaurant had plenty of tables both inside and out, maybe 50 or more, but we were the only customers. In hindsight, that in itself should have been a warning.||The lady asked if we wanted food and went off to get the menus.||The menu was not extensive but did have several options for both starters and mains. We made our choices and when she came back to take our order, everything we asked for was "not possible today"!! In fact the sausage was not possible at all during summer. She told us Cypriots only eat sausage in winter!!! When we asked what there was available we had a choice of two starters and two mains...Village salad with Feta and Olives or Kalamari. The mains were Mousakka or Chicken with home made chips!! We were very hungry and with no other restaurant options we decided to still eat here.||We ordered a salad starter to share and the chicken. She asked what drinks but before we could answer she said "you try our home made freshly squeezed lemon juice, yes?" So we agreed.||Well then minutes passed and the salad and drinks were served. I wish they hadn't been!! The "freshly squeezed home made lemon juice"...this was nothing more than cordial diluted with tepid water served in a plastic beaker. No ice or anything!! It tasted cheap with not much flavour. The salad was no better. The lettuce leaves were wilted, the olives were clearly out of a jar and so vinegary they were unpalatable and the feta cheese was off...even yellowing and with a rancid after taste. The lady returned with a small bowl of two bruschetta breads...with nothing on them.||We ate as much as we could but in fairness that was hardly anything as this was poor quality food.||The mains were served quite quickly but I can see why....it was literally two pieces of chicken and may be 15 chips!!! No garnish, dressing or sauce. The chips were clearly home made which would have been great except they must have been made earlier that day or even sent back to the kitchen by previous diners....they were cold and limp. The chicken was served in some sort of crispy batter affair and had more salt on it then you can imagine...as you took a bite even the flesh was salted...this was horrific food. Disgusting!! We tried to eat some but really struggled. We asked for a glass of water to try and take away the taste. Normally all this food would have been sent back but with no alternatives available we had no choice other than eat it or leave it.||We ate a few mouthfuls but then decided enough was enough. I went inside to ask for the bill. There was just the old lady and her daughter by the till and a man banging on a table with a knife...I assume this was the chef!! The lady handed me the bill!! OMG €36.25 for the poorest meal i have had in 27 years of visiting Cyprus. The bill also confirmed the lemon juice was just Squash but she even had the audacity to charge extra for the feta cheese, olives and bruschetta and €11 for each of the chicken dishes. Now just wanting to get out of there, I handed her my bank card to pay. "Not possible...broken until Tuesday" was the reply "only cash". I explained that I was unable to pay cash as I only had €30 in notes and some small coins. I asked where the nearest ATM was so I could go get some cash..."Paphos" was her response.||The old lady then asked me to hand over the €30 euros which i did but then asked me to show her the coins from my pocket. They came to about €2.23. She counted them out in my hand and took all bar the 3 cents.||At this stage I decided let's just leave it there rather than create a scene and simply leave. ||In summary, do not ever stay, eat or even stop at this eatery. The service, food, and cleanliness of the place is shocking and the menu choice well there isn't a choice. This place is not a good reflection of Cyprus, the cypriots or of their food and service but should be condemned and closed down. Do not be fooled by the innocent old lady waving at you to come in as you...
Read moreWouldn't recommend or go again.||Views 5/5, Service 2/5, Food 3/5, Prices 2/5. ||As with other reviews, upon being beckoned in as driving past we were greeted by a friendly senior lady who sat us at a table with an incredible view. Sadly it was after this that things went downhill. Heavy and uncomfortable persuasion led to the completion of our order, which wasn't quite what we wanted.|The food was ok, portion size a little small.|The bill was a surprise. The prices in the menu were a little expensive but would have been just about palatable given the location, but the inclusion of the full price salad (that we had under persistent persuasion, yet made the point strongly that one of us did not eat salad) made the visit quite an expensive one.||This review, much like the others (although I feel the 1 stars are harsh), isn't going to make much difference to anyone who doesn't religiously check reviews before entering a place. It appears to me that spontaneous stoppers-by will continue to have the same experiences as laid out in these reviews. This is their business model, needs...
Read moreWe wished we had read reviews before we stopped here. We were out on a drive & thought we would stop for lunch. As previously mentioned we were beckoned in by a lady who appeared from nowhere. We were the only ones in the large very tired restaurant & when we ordered we were told that what we actually wanted was not available so we ended up with moussska & lamb stew with a salad between us. Salad came which was mainly shredded cabbage & lettuce. The moussaka was about 2” square on a small plate with some reheated floppy chips!! The lamb stew must have been the last portion scrapped off bottom of pot again with chips. We declined “homemade cake” & asked for the bill. 38 euros for 2 local drinks & our meal. Most expensive & worst meal we have ever had on our many trips to Cyprus. Avoid...
