I arrived at this hotel with no booking, but luckily they were able to accommodate me for a 2 night stay.
The location is perfect, half-way up a beautiful street packed with interesting shops, restaurants, cafes, and little tourist attractions (museums, and a butterfly sanctuary).
I didn't interact with the staff much, and there was a little bit of a language barrier, but they were friendly and helpful.
My room was nice and cosy, and I found the bed to be very comfortable. The continental breakfast was pleasant, with fruit, yoghurt, cereal, bread, pastries/cake, cheese slices, ham and salami slices, juice, coffee, and you can order cooked scrambled or fried eggs. Pretty standard, but enjoyable.
I really want to give the place 5 stars, but I had one issue that was hard to ignore. There was an unpleasant smell in my bathroom, and when I went out on the first day I made the mistake of leaving the bathroom door open, so when I returned the whole bedroom smelled really bad.
Admittedly, I didn't tell the staff about the problem, so they didn't have a chance to fix it, or move me to a different room. Also, I noticed the smell in another part of town, which makes me think there might be a town wide issue, possibly with the sewer system. Anyway, as long as I kept the bathroom door closed, the problem was manageable, and I still really...

Was suspicious about the restaurant of the hotel as I’ve read bad reviews in Google maps applications. Thus was prepared - a few optional places to eat. Good surprise - food was very tasty and fresh and good choice of beers. Good restaurant open till 20:00!!! It's a nice surprise as almost all cafe and restaurants in Karlstejn are shut at 18:00 when the castle is shut down. (Take in consideration that there is nothing to do after 18:00 - Karlstejn is quiet like a cemetery) Rooms are very clean. Staff is very cooperative. The hotel parking place (for 10 cars) - very important!!! You won't find parking around the castle at all !!!
Would like to have air conditioner as the day I stayed it was +25 degrees and it was rather comfortable at night to sleep with the windows opened. But I suppose when the temperature rises up to +30 degrees – it could be rather hot and stuffy. The lack of mini bar in the room. For one night stay – it’s OK, but if you stay for couple of days and buy a couple of beers outside - you would like to keep...
Read moreEnjoyed by two of us, Koruna was a very basic but very pleasant stay. Whilst the room had no fridge, tea/coffee facilities, aircon etc. it was very spacious (sofa, chairs, own entry hall), with decent sized bathroom and plenty of storage and hanging space. Pity the bedside lights didn't work but no doubt they will get fixed. We like to read in bed - boning up on the forthcoming excursions (art history / architecture experience in the castle). It was also nice to wake up to look out of the window at the castle. Room decor definitely dated (query retro?) and rather pleasant. Very helpful and pleasant lady in charge. Breakfast very basic but in the context of things very agreeable. Says it has free wifi but we didn't need it or try it. If you go by car, ask about parking as it could be problematic (not on site). Hotel has its own restaurant (inside and out), We didn't try it. Sometimes no frills are just what meet the need and this was just such a case. Definitely worth a go if you...
