Hotel Sandvig Havn — Hotel in Bornholms Regionskommune

The Lonely Planet guide recommended the Sandvig Havn as a good place to stay in Allinge (pronounced ailing), Bornholm. Surely there is a better hotel in the area? This hotel has a feeling of emptiness and reminded me of a deserted Victorian seaside hotel in the UK. The reception area is not manned. Instead you must ring another hotel for a person to come down to check-in. For the rest of the my time (3 days), there was no-one on reception which meant there was no chance to get local information, not to mention the security implications (ok its Bornholm, the liklihood is zero crime, but call me old fashioned, but I like the idea of some presence at reception). My room felt old and dreary and most particularly was very small. We paid extra for a harbour view, but the room was on the ground floor and did not have a balcony. While sitting on a chair relaxing the only view was of the television/heater. The bathroom was small, with no separate shower unit, just a curtain and drain. There was no soap/shampoo in the dispenser. The room cost €120 per night. I do not know how this compares to other hotels in Bornholm, but I went from here to the 5* Sheraton hotel in Stockholm for €100 per night. This little gem, with hosts that will make you want to stay longer than intended. We randomly stumbled on off season, for a quick bite to eat after a long day of hiking. We ended up staying for several hours, having drinks and snacks and lovely conversation with the owner and employees. The best service we experienced on our entire trip. Great location but disappointing hotel. The double room was very small with two single beds against the walls. Shower room was tiny. Breakfast buffet was moderate. The apartments are much more spacious although access is two flights up a fire escape. Bedroom and apartment were not cleaned or serviced during our three night stay.
