We booked the hotel as out base during the excursions we wanted to make to Catalina/Saona and the Parque del Este. As most excursions seem to go from Bayahibe, we thought the hotel was a good compromise and the description mentioned it had a pricate beach area while the pictures ahowed atunning sea views.|Well, the sea view was indeed stunning. We picked a room with sea view on purpose and that didn't disappoint. Also the room size and the balcony were pretty good. And that sums up all the positive things I can say about the hotel. The condition of the room/bathroom was bad. The bathroom ceiling was leaking and when we mentioned it right after checkin they said they'd look into and they had only noticed same morning... yeah right. The stains on the ceiling and the unplugged hair-dryer (leakage was right above the hairdryer plug) show otherwise. Also the air conditioner was an old, run-down unit that made awful noise even when we had it turned-off (and seemed to be the cause of the leak)|Breakfast was basic (they offered eggs, toasted bread, lemon pancake or croissant and a fruit salad). The staff at breakfast forgot half of our breakfast every day! Had to tell them at least twice (one day we had to ask four times for our eggs). I speak spanish so it wasn't a communication issue. Also we were told that bottled water was bot included in the breakfast and had to pay extra for it 50pesos (that was the last day coz the previous days they just got us bottled water upon request)|There is NO access to the beautiful sea you see in all the pictures. To access the sea, you need to walk 30mins to the public beach (and pay for the chairs).|There isn't much choice for dinner nearby unless you walk to Dominicus (dark and not so safe road of 20-30mins) or to Bayahibe(40 mins walk on the side of the road, better take...

A good friend and I stayed a the Hotel Sol Dominicus for three nights. When we booked we were told that the swimming pool and beach were not available for use ...this proved to be the case: construction work is not yet finished at the sea shore and the hotel has a very limited number of guests as yet. The hotel is situated in a quiet development of apartments.||Noting these obvious limitations, we enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Sol Dominicus. The rooms are spacious and clean. The small restaurant and bar serves a simple but tasty breakfast and we ate a couple of dinners there and a lunch - all were good and on one occasion dinner was cooked by the proprietor's wife. The owner and his staff are friendly and helpful.||At the time of writing (October 2016) you should check on the state of progress with building works at the sea shore to be sure that the hotel fits your requirements, however I think this hotel will grow to be a very pleasant place to stay and might well merit more than my slightly miserly three stars.||PS: until the beach is complete, the neighbouring Tracadero offers a delightful beach and a more elaborate restaurant as an...
