Arrived into Alausi late. Our friends got the last room in Hotel Europa, we walked around the town looking for somewhere to stay and came across Hostal San Pedro. The hotel looked clean and modern from the outside, so we went in.The room we were shown was at the back of the hotel. In hindsight, we should have kept looking, but it was very late and we were tired from a long bus journey and afraid we wouldn't find another room. ||||The room was terrible - it had a dirty decrepid couch - it looked so bad we were afraid it might have vermin in it. We slept in our sleeping bags as we did not want to touch the sheets and blankets on the bed. The curtains, floor, lockers and tv were all filthy dirty. Shared bathroom beside us had terrible smell and even though there was an electric shower there was no hot shower. The wifi did not work and the hotel employee at reception didn't appear interested. ||||To avoid spending time in the room, we sat on the street benches for an hour before going to sleep. We could not wait to leave the next day. Do not stay here - keep looking for another room, no matter how tired you are or how...
Read moreWe are travelling around South America as a late twenties/early thirties couple and we stayed in Hostal San Pedro in a private room for one night.||We stayed in Alausí for one night so we could go on the La Nariz del Diablo train ride the following day.||The good thing about the hostel was that it was cheap ($20) and given how small Alausí is, location was good. I had a look in a few other hostels which were charging $30+ and the standard was no better. ||But you do get what you pay for in the room. Basically a room with mould on the walls and a simple double bed with a tv in the corner. It's all very old and run down but was fine for a night. ||Bathroom smelt of cabbage too which was a bit...
Read moreWe arrived and a few doors down from the bus station is the San Pedro. A very convenient location, short walk from train as well. We were given room 5 for $35. It is directly below room 15 a review of which we had read on Trip advisor and which sounds identical. It was carnival so I guess the price was a bit higher. Really comfy large bed, big room, towels & soap provided, hot water and pretty good shower. Wifi good on landing but patchy in room. No breakfast but can be bought from attached restaurant. Only down side was strong smell from bathroom (before we had used it!) smelt like something had died in the drains! Curtains also very thin and probably see through if you have the light...
