If you want to camp or stay a a wonderful comfy and spacious place, this is the spot.
Beautiful camping spot with beautiful views of the mountains surrounding Alausi. We got in touch w Victor via WhatsApp but you can just show up. Victor is super kind and attentive; camping is $5 per person per night and we had access to the kitchen, electricity, a very nice warm shower and covered area with a hammock and a big table to work/eat. We had to do some work online and the internet was very fast! There are two super cute dogs Oso and Lilly :) they are very friendly and playful. We spent sometime playing with both of them.
We camped under a little covered patio (though you can camp in the green areas if you want) and brought our bikes under so they could stay dry in case of rain. Victor grew up in Connecticut and is super kind and interesting; he is fully bilingual as well! He is super knowledgeable about permaculture, the town of Alausi and its surroundings; we enjoyed chatting w him. We heard he grew veggies and ended up falling in love with the pasta sauce he has for sell and his chocolate (for hot cocoa) is delicious; we bought some to bring with us.
We needed to keep moving but kinda wished we could have stayed longer. It was such a cool and...
Read moreI stayed here for a night while i was here to do the train ride to Nariz del Diablo. It was difficult to get here. I had no information on how to arrive to the hostel. But i made it at late evening. I really liked this place. This place gets good travelers. Victor is good talker and got tons of information. He is fun to be around. The hostel got a good vibe. Victor makes everyone feels at home.||||The hostel is in the farm. It got kitchen for the guests. But it could be some effort to get grocery or beers after dark. The neareast shopping place is bit far from the hostel. The kitchen is decent and functioning. There is ample of space in the dorm room. The wifi is good. The hike during the day from the hostel to the city and back is scenic. This is definitely the place to sray...
Read moreWe stayed 3 nights in a room in the farm of Beatriz (the mother of Victor). It is a beautiful farmhouse and she is cultivating her own fruit and vegetables. The breakfast was very special every day: some times toasted bread with eggs, another time tortillas with yucca. And great special juices (like juice from special tasting ecuadorian tomatoes). Beatriz was very helpfull and ordered a taxi so that we could buy our tickets for the train Nariz del Diabolo in time. Beware: the train does NOT ride on mondays. The rooms in the house are clean and big. You have to share a bathroom with one other room, but since we were the only guests in the house we did not have to share. You can use the kitchen for making tea, but you cannot cook there. It is Beatriz' domain. The hostal...
