The Grand Victoria Hotel has many plus points - a gracious old building, attractive rooms, friendly staff, and a good central location. ||Unfortunately the hotel is unable to provide a basic requirement: a good night’s sleep. The hotel holds many functions during the day and the evening, but unfortunately the lay out of the hotel (all rooms overlook internal atriums, and all windows open ONLY to the atriums) means that any evening functions disturb guests. On our first night the music stopped at midnight, and we were then able to sleep (although we were woken early by the setting up of breakfast service on the floor immediately below us). On the second night the music was deafening!!! and went on until 1.30 am. At 2.30 am the staff started dragging furniture along the floor below us, to set up for another function the next day. We got only 4 hours sleep. Our complaint the following morning was met with fulsome apologies and agreement that the extended disturbance was unacceptable (and an admission from the staff member that noise disturbance for overnight guests is a regular problem) but no adjustment was made to our bill. When we insisted we were given a discount of 10% - inadequate for the loss of a good night’s sleep. ||A further point to note is that because the windows only open to the internal atrium they have to be kept closed. As a result our room was terribly hot, and had neither a fan nor aircon. ||We were so disappointed that what should have been an enjoyable stay was marred by noisy functions on both nights, and we’re especially annoyed that we were kept awake until after 3 am on the...
Read moreFirst impressions are a 5 star hotel, open atrium, attentive staff and immediately taken to our room. But the safe wouldn't open - took the bell boy half an hour to sort and we didnt trust it then. No hot water...they had to put the heater on - another half an hour wait.....TV no English and the loo blocked!!!!!!!!||||Room generally nice and clean, bathroom ok but only shampoo as toiletires then no tea/coffee in the room.||||Small balcony over street with white light shining - however this changed to red and blue after 8pm flashing - so had to make sure curtains closed.||||Bar small but very smokey and football on TV wihich staff kept coming in to watch, so decided to eat in restaurant. Argentinian Steaks were good came with chips rice and salad, decor was modern but a bit sterile.||||Very tired so to bed early around 9pm - then the noise started right under our room at 10pm...yes 10pm!!!! it filled the room like we had two ghetto blasters in there. Husband went down to reception to complain and there was a lady form the other side of hotel also looking for the source of the noise. Reception said it was on until 11.00 - no thought for us above it!!!!||||Not good at all - the room should never have been let out if they had a party room below...this was a Wednesday evening not a Saturday!||||Very unimpressed disgracefull attitude towards guests and a pity as it was a nice hotel otherwise.||||Breakfast wasn't that great expected better, no toast and no cooked eggs offered - and no...
Read moreI live here and am trying various local hotels to recommend for visitors. Based on my experience in room 206 I would not come back to Grand Victoria. As of now, I recommend Oro Verde (Royal Romar) as the best in Loja overall, with a more budget-friendly, cute, good-value alternative being Casa de Manuel, and Izhkayluma as a must in Vilcabamba.
Room had poor ventilation -- stuffy upon entry which was fixed by opening terrace door, bed was not super comfortable and not soft mattress -- honestly a bit hard, water was lukewarm but not hot enough to keep me from shivering while showering in the morning, poorly insulated room from busy street with car noise waking me up in morning (sounded like firehouse bells at 7am, but was probably church on main square), no visible power outlets -- had to move the bedside table and almost made the lamp fall then any charger plugged in would fall out of the outlet easily, limited breakfast options + mango juice tasted like water, oh also my call dropped multiple times on the wifi so internet was bad. Service was good, room was clean, price was ok with discount promotion happening for $56 with breakfast included, and I will say the building is quite pretty, but like many places in Ecuador, this one has a nice appearance but completely...
