This family run business is not like the other places we have stayed on our adventure. It was more reminiscent of a business hotel than a hostal or a vacation get away. That said it was a wonderful place with many positives.||||Firstly, the location is only couple of blocks away from the lively center of Loja, close enough to be able to walk to all the fascinating sites, without being in the middle of the noise and congestion of the city. The street in front hosted more kids playing soccer than cars.||||Secondly, the staff was friendly, and very attentive to our needs. After returning from a site seeing tour one afternoon, and in dire need of a hot drink to take the chill off, the young men on duty insisted on pulling out all the selections of teas they had so we could have an ample choice. Upon check out, they discovered that we were heading to Vilcabama, and were planning on going to the bus terminal. They not only let us know that there was a bus that stopped just a couple blocks away from the hostal, but insisted that one of them carry Brenda's bag. Chivalry is not dead at Los Lirios!||||The room has a private bathroom, a flat screen TV to watch Copa America on, decent wifi and a total sense of security knowing one of the young men is always watching the front entrance.||||The only minor detraction would be the lack of common space, somewhere to lounge and relax besides the room. The roof top is used for laundry, and for the family pets. The hot water took some time to get to the shower, and sometimes the water pressure was low.||||There were many quick and inexpensive places to dine within a couple blocks, and a terrific little pizza joint across the street.||||Los Lirios is a basic yet friendly place to...
Read moreA nice family run hotel. Just a couple of streets from all the action but pretty quiet at night. We slept really well and although there is no escaping dogs and roosters in Ecuador, they seemed to be more quiet and in the distance during our stay. ||The staff is, as mentioned before, super friendly and very attentive. The young man at the front desk insisted to carry both our backpacks (simultaneously) up to the third floor to our room. |We originally had to check out at 13.00 hours but they asked us about our travel plans and when they found out that our night bus was leaving at 23.00 hours, they told us we could stay in the room until we needed to leave for the bus. They don't speak much English and our Spanish is lacking so it took them some effort and patience to explain this us. |We were super happy with their offer and we really appreciated that they took the time to communicate it!||Our room was nice and clean and the wifi fast. Los Lirios is a really nice hotel if you are looking for a place to...
Read moreWe stayed here for three nights. It was a busy place and we felt sorry for the staff, who locked the large noisy gate to the property every night for security reason, but had to get up regularly for late arriving or departing guests.||I went for my regular runs in the morning and felt trapped in here until the staff had to be woken at 0600h to open the gate. Not sure what would happen if there was a fire on the property.||The walls felt thin and you could hear people wandering the corridor at night.||The gas truck and rubbish truck on the street also caused us to have sleepless nights. Some of this is not the host's fault - just a situation of where the Hostal is located.||The staff were pleasant and always willing to...
