I had stayed here last year for about one and a half months. It was great. This year I contacted the owner through the hotel site and secured my accommodations early. I know how hard it can be last minute with all that is happening in this town. I was greeted by security since I arrived well into the early morning. They had a temporary room for the night and the next day I moved into my preferred accommodation. There are a myriad of different rooms available, some with A/C and television and some without both. I chose the latter. No A/C and no television. The main reason I took this place is the distance from town and the food. Both are second to none. You are a good distance from the "Insane asylum" they call downtown and the food is 10/10. The breakfast is simple but the almuerzo and cena are amazing. Ceviche!!! Amazing!!! Atun!!! That one gets an 11/10. It melted in your mouth. Edgar, the chef, takes great pride in his work and his assistants are meticulous. The newly designed restaurant/bar is a fabulous addition to the hotel. The owner runs a tight ship as well. While you may get a "neighbour" or two coming back in the late hours, the party noise doesn't last long and generally is of the conversation type and not screaming and yelling. You are a short walk from the beach and just far enough from the heart pounding music to not be vibrated out of your bed. The WIFI is good. My room is the farthest from the modem and I still got 2/5 or 3/5 bars. If I wanted better I would just have to move outside my room and sit in the middle somewhere in the micro climate garden. All in all a good visit. My 2015 was as good or better...
Read moreWe stayed at the Sumpa for 6 nights in a private bungalow. We paid $12 each and this included breakfast. We also had air con, a fan and a hammock. It was very quiet and we slept really well.||It's a short walk to the town (5mins) and even shorter to the beach. There's a restaurant on site but we never tried it as there are so many cheap deals available in town.||We felt very safe here and walked into and from town at all hours including late at night with no problems.||The staff speak broken English which is helpful and provided clean towels and toilet roll mid way through our stay, upon request!||We got breakfast included which was a cheese toastie with scrambled egg on the side with instant coffee and fruit juice. No milk or tomato ketchup though, but always fine.||Things to consider: |1.) take a mozzie net - there's a few lurking and we found this very helpful as there wasn't one provided|2.) they don't clean the room - by day 6 ours could have really done with a sweep and a change of bins!||All said, we had...
Read moreFirst let me say that the restaurant is closed so the reviews talking about the food and wines don't apply anymore. ||There are two types of rooms, the little hut ones and the glass door ones. ||I believe the glass door ones are more modern but I haven't been inside. ||We stayed in Hut 1. Kind of place you put your shoes ON before going in. Very dirty.floors, walls, sink, shower.. everywhere.||The electric shower wires would start smoking after 5 min of use and plastic melting off. ||The staff is very nice and friendly but that hut in particular could do with a good clean throughout and repair the shower head !||A bit noisy at night but that...
