We had a one night reservation Jan 10, 201. We got there and the entire compound is locked. You have to press a buzzer to enter the property. We did and someone came. I put my credit card on the counter (next to the Mastercard sign) and she said ¨no, dinero¨ which means cash She did not speak English. I asked for someone who speaks English and she shook her head. She wrote on a piece of paper $70.56 which I gave her. She gave me a key and was gone. I did not get a receipt of any sort. I will say that the property was beautiful with lots of trees and plants. Quite charming. However, the room was very dated. Our bedroom lamp was just a bare light bulb with no shade. The TV was so small it was ridiculous. We went to the restaurant but it and the bar were closed. The next morning, we went to take showers but there was no hot water....they didn´t have enough water pressure. We had to leave early and called the front desk to have the gate opened so we could leave. No answer. We went out and walked around, no employees. We finally got in the car and honked the horn. Finally someone came. It was 7AM. We never got any receipts and were sorely disappointed with the entire experience. I will say two positive things. 1.) A lovely lady employee named Dalia was so sweet and tried to help. There was no internet and she tried making calls but she couldn´t help us. 2.) The property is charming and with good management, has great potential. However, at this point, I could not recommend...
Read moreI always like to start off every review of what type of travelers we are and what price range we look for. We consider ourselves budget to mid-price travelers but still require cleanliness and a private bathroom. This place well exceeded our expectations. The location is excellent and close to many attractions that the Valle de los Chillos has to offer and yet it's tucked away on a quiet street that dead-ends at the front gate of the property. The gardens and lush and green and full of exotic flowers. The rooms are clean and comfortable and quite large with soaring ceilings. The main house and dining room are also lovely. The breakfast that is included with your stay is filling, with plenty of fresh bread, choice of coffee or tea, fresh fruit and juice and your choice of eggs. The staff is very helpful and we were particularly impressed by Caroline. She was very responsive to my emails and very sweet and kind. For non Spanish speakers, she is fluent in both German and English. We were very pleased with our stay and look forward to...
Read moreWe visited Sangolqui in the latter part of February, and from the get go there was something very cozy and inviting of the hotel.|The rooms were clean and more than adequate. The gardens within the property were nicely maintained and very tranquil. The “guard dog”, Brandi was always there to meet us with a soft demeanor and a wagging tail. |We stayed at Hosteria Sommergarten for a week, we had breakfast and dinner there almost everyday. The breakfast was served to our group (a very picky group with all kinds of dietary restrictions) with all the care and always a smile. The dinners were even better. The food came in different layers, always delicious. |And lastly, the staff are the true stars..... Sandra is Miss everything, a true gem, and all the rest of the staff in the kitchen, and the front desk were all very professional and courteous. Also, we had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Ralph Sommer, the owner, a great host and a very knowledgeable person. |We had a memorable time and would strongly recommend it as a place to stay...
