After many surf trips to Tunco, we decided to take a gamble on Las Flores and we are so glad we did. More about the surf break later. As for the property-||||Staff was very friendly and even with my limited Spanish we were able to communicate easily. The room was clean and they offered every day to come clean it again. Pool was clean as well. The a/c worked beautifully. There was no hot water but you don't need it in El Salvador. ||The menu selection was limited for a vegetarian but this has been my experience almost everywhere in the country. Breakfast was on point. Yes- food does take awhile to arrive- also common throughout the country. There are not many other food options nearby; the town of Cuco has a bunch of seafood restaurants that all seem to serve the same thing. There is a pupusa stand just down the hill from the hotel (green building). There are also a few grocery stores for treats. ||||View from the hotel is absolutely incredible. The only similar view we found in the area was at the AST resort but it was closed when we stayed there (we went exploring for some different food options). Compared to other hotels in the area, I would say this is the best value. Yes, there are many steps down to the beach. That is part of the adventure. The beach is large and beautiful and a nice place for a secluded morning run.||||The hotel seems to be utilized mostly by Salvadorans. There were large families coming in for the weekend. As well, the beach is utilized by locals on the weekends and unfortunately they do not pack out their trash. We tried to help with a mini beach clean-up after the weekend. ||||The only complaint I have about the hotel is the board selection for rentals that was advertised was not available. I see that is no longer on their website so I'm not sure if they offer board rental anymore. We made do with what they had, but would have brought our own had we known. ||||As for the break- we happened to arrive almost the exact same time as a large group of women staying at a nearby hotel. Had they not been there, we would have had the break almost completely to ourselves. If you have surfed Sunzal, you can imagine how surprised we were at the lack of crowds. There is a risk of getting skunked- the break is not as consistent or big as Sunzal. But we had a great time cruising around on waist to head high waves. Also the beach is sand; the only rocks you will contend with are right next to the point. For non-surfers that want to learn, the rest of the beach is all beach break and you can ride white water until you can't paddle anymore. ||||I would recommend this location to anyone that wants a relaxing secluded vacation away from the craziness that is Tunco, coupled with some potentially...
Read moreThis hotel has had mixed reviews and, for that, I contacted the owner. She is super responsive and very kind and generous. We had some communication by whatsapp and we decided to come and take a chance. The hotel is delightful and for the price, is good value. I am not sure what was going on with some of the other reviewers but when we stayed here the rooms and pool were very clean. The meals are simple and well prepared. They certainly arrive quickly. There are plenty of cold drinks. There is the added bonus of an urn of hot coffee on the terrace from about 5.30 in the morning! Meals are served from 8 in the morning until 8 in the evening. Wifi can be a bit patchy (you are very remote here and at peak times it is slow - this is not the fault of the hotel) but we were able to do everything we needed to do, more or less when and where, on the property, we needed to do it. I am typing now from the terrace.||||Yes the rooms are simple and yes there is no hot water. However, the rooms are clean, our beds were comfy, there is good a/c, and you really don't need hot water. The staff do not speak English (why should they?) and as I speak Spanish I could not test how communication is with them if one does not speak Spanish.||||The owner is fantastic. She helped us arrange transfer by cab/boat/bus from el Cuco to Leon (Nicaragua) because when we visited all the regular boats had stopped due to the previous months of unrest (over now). She also gave us opinions on other things to do around el Cuco. She could not have been nice and she speaks flawless English, in case you do not speak Spanish.||||It is indeed 200 steps down to the sea. That is the tradeoff for having the most spectacular view of about 200 degrees. Both sunset and sunrise are events you will want to see. Once you get down to the ocean, there is just endless beach, lovely big waves to play in, and no undertow that I could spot or feel. ||||For the price, this is a lovely place to stay. Yes there are little improvements and I am sure the hotel will make them. I can recommend this...
Read moreI’ve honestly never had such a horrible experience at a hotel before. I came here for 2 nights with my family on vacation. However, I was surprised immediately by the construction going on, which made everything quite disorganized and loud. Then I realized that the check in place was also the kitchen. Which seemed very chaotic, people were cooking and trying to check us in at the same time. Then when we went into our rooms, they were very disappointing, almost had a depressing feel to it. The TV didn’t work, the windows were ruined, the bathrooms were small and tiny. Then my other room that two of my family members had was terrible, the room was depressing as well, extremely small bathroom, their air conditioner remote was broken, the door wouldn’t close properly at times when needed, TV didn’t work, there were dead animals on the door just there which was appalling to see. These rooms were NOT worth the price. The upper lounge area did not look like the photos, the fence was on the verge of breaking, very dangerous. The pool was nice and the food was okay, again still not worth the price. Then when I wanted to go down to the beach, is when I realized that there were over 100 stairs and the railings were not very useful, not safe and you could quite easily fall up or down. It was extremely tiring and unnecessary to get to the beach, so it ended up with my family not going much down to the beach because we had some folk who got tired much easier than others as well so we didn’t want them to fall and hurt themselves. This place clearly is NOT worth the price, I do not recommend coming here for vacation, I certainly won’t be...
