Can't wait to go back to this place. I found it online while looking for pet friendly hotels. All reviews were good and the rooms looked beautiful so we decide to give it a go and let me tell you that all the good comments were correct.
We stayed in the apartment suite for 2 days and even though I was told it was 2 stories I was expecting upstairs and downstairs to be narrow or small but that was not the case.
The first floor had a small dinning table that can sit 4 people and a living room area made with 2 beds as couches (I didn't noticed they were BEDS at firts, is all beautifully decorated) with a desk, a bathroom that included a Jacuzzi and a tiny backyard that was just perfect for my puppy. Then upstairs we had the bedroom with a comfy couch and a closet for your clothes also a balcony with a table and chairs to enjoy your breakfast while looking at the lake far away.
It was all super clean and well kept, the food was great, the entire place is decorated in a colonial style with lots of interesting little things to look at, the staff was friendly and helpful. They also have a pool that I would have loved to use but my puppy kept trying to jump in so we couldn't.
The only issue we encounter was that the TV got disconfigured for some reason so we didn't have access to cable TV and we were told they also didn't have access to streaming services so basically no TV. For me it was not a problem because I wanted to chill with a book at night and check out the town during the day but if we plan to stay for longer then it's something to consider (you could just watch stuff on your computer or tablet).
Also the door had a trick you had to do when you wanted to lock it. It's not hard, but at first we spent a good 5 minutes trying to find out why the key wasn't turning.
Other than that, nothing but good things to say about this place.
Food: amazing and the rations are medium to big. Beverages and desserts were all good, I have a list of the ones I want to try next. And there are some vegan options as well.
Location: they don't have a parking lot, you park in front of the hotel but it's safe and nice. Plus it feels like it's only 2 blocks away from the entrance to the town. It's within a block away from the towns main Plaza and church so you can go walking.
Staff: most of them are super friendly and nice. Very few are your super serious type but they are all helpful.
Room: spacious enough to have 4 people there comfortably sleeping in their own beds and still have space to walk around normally. I figure more beds can be brought in to include more people, maybe up to 6 or 7. There are closets upstairs and downstairs to place your bags and clothes in them and also tables (like an antique door that was turned into a table).
So yeah, give it a go. I doubt very much you...
Read moreSuchitoto is two hours away from the airport by car, and the roads are anything but pleasant. But when you're finally here, you will forget all about the drive. The town is pretty and Los Almendros de San Lorenzo is even prettier. The small hotel is located in a 19th century building, only a block from the main square of the city. The location couldn't be better.||I was quickly checked in by a friendly member of staff. He did not speak much English, but others here do, so there should always be someone present to assist you in English if needed. The owner is also often present himself and is very friendly. The hotel feels almost like a museum with lots of artefacts on display and a beautiful lounge where you can sit and relax.||My room faced the inner courtyard and came with a very small window only. The room was large and was furnished like I would imagine hotel rooms a hundred years ago. While it added to the atmosphere, I would still have appreciated a desk or a coffee table, for which there would have been ample room. A fridge and safe would also have been nice. The bed was okay and A/C was efficient. A jug of drinking water was provided. Wifi worked well both in the room as well as in the restaurant. It was free, fast, unlimited and easy to use.||The bathroom came with a walk-in shower with an overhead shower. There was hot water, but water pressure was not good enough. Shampoo was available in single-use bottles and hand soap in small bars. I appreciate this as I don't find the wall-mounted containers that many hotels choose to put up on their bathroom walls hygienic.||Breakfast was included in my room rate. It is not a buffet, instead you fill in a breakfast card the previous evening and then let them know in the morning when you would like your breakfast. However, despite the preorder, they were not well-prepared and the first morning I had to wait 25 minutes to get my meal. The second morning, it was fortunately quicker. Breakfast included a fruit salad, juice, a hot beverage and a dish from the menu, think eggs or French toast or granola. While it was nothing special, it gave a good start to the day.||I had dinner at the restaurant twice. The staff were friendly, the food was okay but nothing special really. The prices were reasonable.||There was also a small pool in the backyard. The water was a bit on the cold side as temperatures fall considerably at night.||On departure, I asked the hotel to organize a transfer to San Salvador, which was very well taken care of. My driver David was great and took me to the capital in 1.5 hours at a cost...
Read moreI chose Los Almendros de San Lorenzo Boutique Hotel because it’s the most expensive in town (well - when you’re traveling alone and you don’t know what to pick this is the nature reaction). I originally paid $211 for a Lakeview room, but upon arrival, there was no lake view. The staff kindly showed me a second room, also labeled as a Lakeview room, which was also a spacious two-story room, with a fridge. However, the bathtub was dusty, and a large tree blocked the lake view, making it essentially non-existent. The hotel agreed to refund me for the Lakeview room and rebook me in a standard room (cheaper book directly with the hotel at $120) which I appreciated.
Throughout the process, the staff were friendly, smiling, and understanding, which was a relief. However, when I returned to my room after 10 PM, there was no Wi-Fi and no hot water in the shower (no fridge in this type of the room) I informed the night staff, but he didn’t speak English well and told me to wait until the next morning. After a full day of hiking, I really needed a hot shower, so this was disappointing.
Despite these issues, the breakfast was delicious, and the staff were friendly. I enjoyed sitting in the garden for breakfast in front of my room, which was fantastic. The location is perfect, with easy access to the waterfall, the church, and the city center.
Street parking in front of the hotel is convenient. This is an honest review of my stay. I’m curious about Casa 1800, as it also looked nice when I passed by and had dinner there. I hope Los Almendros de San Lorenzo can improve the shower and Wi-Fi situation in the future to make this a better place to return to.
Thank you to the staff for their...
