Reviews we read beforehand talked of "spacious accommodation". Ha! Our room was tiny - there was one small upright chair beside the door - there was nowhere else in the room it could go. Our clothes and luggage ended up on the floor (there were 5 clothes hangers on a pole, one of which had pairs of socks on it, but no storage otherwise). The bedside table had little room apart from the froufrou lamp. When we took the superfluous cushions off the bed and put them on the chair, we had to sit side-by-side on the bed, looking out on the road works outside, while passersby looked in on us (there were no blinds or net curtains and we were on the ground floor). The dark walls had a motley selection of amateur paintings, prints, bits of dead animal and other stuff and the window ledge had a collection of clay hedgehogs, so not an inviting place to sit anyway. On the landing upstairs were chairs (complete with teddies), loads more bric-a-brac but an excellent coffee maker, a fridge and snacks, and a selection of different glasses. There were several clocks around the place, none of which were working. Both the wall opposite our room and our door had nails sticking out, presumably to hold yet more objects.|Breakfast was in the cafe next door - their windows DID have net curtains. You were not asked if there was anything you can't or don't eat, just presented with a tray, so my unasked for boiled egg went back. What a waste. The yoghurt and fruit was good, I enjoyed the roll, ignored the biscuit and something else in a chipped bowl. The sugar bowl was grubby, the doilie stained... coffee poor, so we went back to our building and made a decent coffee there.|I nearly gave this one star but the room and bathroom were clean and the upstairs landing fine to...
Read moreAs their B&B was fully booked during medieval fair, the owner heartfully recommened my family their two-room appartment in central Hämeenlinna instead. She described it as extremely comfortable beautifully decorated and modern flat in a good location near the fair. ||||In truth once we entered the flat it smelled strongly as tobaco. The flat was extremely moderately decorated, nothing near the quality to the other B&B rooms they advertice. The overall the condition of the appartment is poor, for instance trash bags were absent, bedlinen and pillows stained yellow and too small for the sofabed. For what we got it was clearly overpriced, 250€ per night. ||||When I called the owner to report a complaint regarding the smell (their rulebook mentioned a high penalty for smoking) he claimed to me that he had not smelled anything while he visited the place last time. After that he told me that there had been a family living there permanently who had smoked a lot. Then he told me that they never promissed it wouldn’t smell like tobacco! Their slogan being ’You’ll sleep better than at home’ kinda promises more. ||||Being marketed as B&B I also expected that breakfast might be included, or if nor there might be a deal with their cafeteria. He told us the breakfast was not included and that they had excluded us from the breakfast served for other B&B customers. Nice.||||Fortunately we are only staying here for one night. The only good side about this place is that I’ll be super happy to be back home. Due to the low quality-price ratio and the rude, dishonest and aggogant attitude of the owner I cannot unfortunately recommed this...
Read moreA nice, different place to stay in downtown Hämeenlinna. Review based on a one-night stay in March’22 (background of spending 80+ nights per year in different hotels around the globe). ||||Location:||Quite well located just on the border of city center, away from the main commotion but still just a short walk away from the restaurants, shops and bars. The main bus station close by, distance to the railway station 1.5km. With car the E12 highway is very easily reachable. ||||Room:||Had a room at the ground floor next to the main entrance. On the smaller side but enough for a single night without any big luggage etc. ||||Some issues with soundproofing though, as the room has just a regular thin door to the corridor. So it was rather obvious every time somebody entered the building or went out. Having said that, luckily there was not really any major problem. ||||Room was very clean, no signs of usage anywhere. ||||Etc: ||Good breakfast served to the table. ||||Check-in & out was very efficient. ||||Would I return there?||Yes sure, a nice place offering something else than the regular big...
