Finally there is a proper Thai place in HML! I’ve been going to Thailand regularly for the past two decades. I no longer live in Finland and am used to the standards of Thai food in London etc., but I couldn’t have been happier when visiting hml when I was told there is a new Thai place in town. I was a bit sceptical first, as the only ‘Thai’ place that has occupied the town for ages has absolutely nothing to do with real Thai food. But I was quite blown away by the standard of this new Thai place. Firstly, just to have Som Tam (papaya salad) and sticky rice on the menu tells you this place is no joke. We went with my family of 5 people sharing like half of the things available on the menu 😅 and absolutely everything we had from the steamed fish to the Kra Phao was just sensational. Really took me back to the streets of Bangkok with its strong pungent flavours, strong use of various Thai herbs, as well as not being shy with the use of chilli, as you shouldn’t when talking of majority of Thai dishes. I love the variety in the menu, having salads and legendary street food dishes, as well as epic Thai desserts. As a avid Tom Yam fan, my only critique is that the Tom yam was a tad too sweet, lacking some pungency from fish sauce and acidity, and a bit more spiciness, but apart from that, what an absolute delight. I would recommend trying out especially the som tam with some sticky rice as well as the the Kra Phao that in my opinion was the best dish out of all the dishes we tried. I just hope people try other than just the curries, which are more available everywhere, order few of the dishes and share, in order to get an idea of the complexity of Thai cuisine. Also the service is super friendly and accommodating and puts a smile on your face. I truly hope you keep the true Thai level of spice and flavour and don’t adjust it to the blandness of Finnish taste like all the other places do, but keep true to the true Thai standard of flavours. Extremely friendly and service oriented staff! We called an hour before the kitchen closed from the car, and still had about an hour drive. They promised to prepare the food for us. We ordered via text message, they had in on their list and prepared it fresh upon our arrival. The food was very good (authentic papaya salad) some of the other dishes were a bit too "europeanized" and a bit too sweet. Annokset olivat erittäin kauniita, ravintola on tyylikäs ja siisti ja palvelu ystävällistä. Ilmeisesti uusi työntekijä oli tarjoilemassa. Tilasin viiniä listalta 12 cent. mutta saatavilla olikin vain 16 cent. 🤔 Tilaamaani annosta ei myöskään ollut saatavilla, vaan minulle ehdotettiin hetken päästä toista annosta. Tämäkin sopi minulle. Tilatessa en huomannut kysyä lihan alkuperämaata ja hyvästä valmistustavasta huolimatta kana oli selvästikin kanaa eikä broileria. Lihan rakenne oli kuiva, mauton ja tikkuinen. Maustaminen oli liian maltillista. Sama ongelma on Sibeliuksenkadun Thai-ravintolassa. Kana on kirjaimellisesti thaimaalaista - ei jatkoon.
