My experience is that the staff do not address the problems given by its guests, and sometimes argues against their guests! The latter should not be the case of any respectable establishment, even when the guests are obnoxious! We received a cold room, with NO heating in a region of Finland that easily reaches minus 20-degrees centigrade. We were told that they had checked our rooms - this was a clear evasion (lie) - and that they were 20 degrees, it was not.|||| So, you try to make the best of the situation by pulling up under the blankets of the beds, and now, you start hearing a faint noise through the ventilation. Suddenly, a distorted singing voice is heard from the Karaoke bar 5 stories beneath. Now you have to, willingly or not, listen to this singing until 4-5 in the morning ( 05:00 on Fridays I believe). If you are that kind of person that changes sides when you try to sleep, there is a motion sensor attached to the bathroom lighting. This motion sensor will turn on when someone in the bed closest to the bathroom moves (the light shuts off after about 30 seconds. This light switching can be kind of frustrating, or fun if you want some disco lights with the nice heavily accented version of Celine Dion heard through the ventilation system. You think that maybe you can check your phone for some news, or something to get your mind of things, however, the wifi does not work correctly. ||||So you wake up, and you take the fully functional elevator, down to the first floor where breakfast is served. It is served in the same venue that you heard through the ventilation last night. As you enter the venue, the personnel is cleaning the floors, toilets, and walls with machines while blinking lights with Finlandia/Korskenkorva drinks are being advertised on big screens. There is always loud music in the bar. Cold Karelian pirogs and bread that is still cold from the freezer are common. At one point, they had no more bread in the freezer, so the burger joint (which is in the same venue) helped out with some burger buns! ||||We did not complain about the karaoke bar nor the breakfast. We did not complain about the light in the bathrooms either. All we wanted was some heat in our rooms and a connection to the internet (it is 2018!) — the first we found ourselves in one of the storage rooms downstairs. The internet was never fixed.||||As you look at google maps, you will reckon that this place is well situated, close to both to the downhill slopes and cross-country ski slopes. Ruka also offers other kinds of safari activities, some of which are administered by the same group of people that supposedly will be the personnel of Arctic Hotel Zone. - Do not be fooled by its name; this is...
Read moreLocation makes it the only reason that I would revisit. But there are many other choices in the area. All other neighbouring hotels fit in the "location" tag as well.
For this hotel:
Very Helpful staff.( The one I met) A lot useful information provided when requested.
New, clean, modern looking.
Very basic facilities. Very basic breakfast. Very basic room. Very basic bathroom.
There is only one level of sliding gates in the lobby instead of two levels. Therefore the small lobby is very cold. If gates open, Cold airs gets straight in to lobby without any buffering.
Very cold rooms. Something about the windows and balcony doors are not up to the normal standards in Finland. Cold air gets in.
The higher floor rooms are even colder. Insulation against cold air is very poor.
The "fake hot pipe rack" in the bathroom misleads people to think it works for drying.
The washing device attached to the water tap, which is quite standard in Finish households and hotels, used for cleaning after using the toilet, is missing, in the bathroom.
Hair dryer provided.
No drying racks, hangers, or equipment for drying wet clothes in the room, nor in the hotel. But people come to here to ski and clothes get wet, specially kids. So.
The floor heating will warm a very limited part of the floor outside of the bathroom. So arranging drying wet cloth on the floor is tricky.
Internet sockets do not provide any signals, and wifi signal is weak in the rooms.
Those TV cables are just there hanging without any tunneling.
In general, a new, clean hotel with extremely basic facilities, in a...
