We had booked 2 nights at this venue as a treat at the end of our holiday, travelling from Provence to the Alps. The journey to the Mineral Spa is a series of steep climbs and hairpin bends. When you eventually get there the car park is littered with construction vehicles and there is construction work at the front of the building. Eventually we found the door to go in and our host greeted us warmly. We had been travelling for 4-5 hours so was ready to find the bar for a beer. However this was served at the table we were to eat at. We got a small tin each. Our meal was served by Alan who gave a brief description of what we were eating at each course. The first was a coquette, the second course was chicken marinaded in Indian spices with Pasta, then cheese, then a tart. We had a very expensive bottle of wine to accompany this ( not by choice). ||Our room was very pleasant with an excellent shower. We had originally planned to see the Tour de France the next day but overnight due to bad weather, the route had been altered and was no longer coming through Bourg st Maurice which was why we had booked to stay at the Mineral Spa! We explained this to Alan and said we were going to leave as there was little point in staying a second day, the weather being dreadful. He was really angry with us and said we were very rude and that he would not behave in such a way. He tried to charge us the full price for 2 nights but under the booking.com contract we were only obliged to pay 50 percent for the cancellation which we did. Fortunately my husband had this information on his mobile phone and showed it to Alan. We were charged 5 euros each for a small tin of beer each and 5 euros for an espresso each. As we left my husband thanked Alan but he did not speak to us and we left. Mineral Spa is tastefully furnished but not comfortable and is very very expensive for what you get. I have never been shouted at by a hotelier before, he should moan, we were over 400 euros out of pocket for a...
Read moreWe stayed here for four nights to getaway from it all and to enjoy some of the local hiking. The location, service and design of the chalet did not disappoint! On our first night, Alain, cooked us a fantastic four course meal made from food local to the area and helped us plan our next three days. ||||Alain's suggestions were perfect - poking around Val D'Isere the first day, and then a hike into a beautiful alpine meadow full of marmots. On the second day he suggested a drive to Italy and the Aosta Valley and on the third day, two more hikes into a beautiful secret valley followed by a second valley full of small villages, cows and sheep. All the hikes were well marked and since it was early in the season, had very few hikers. Food was easy to pick-up in the local villages.||||Mineral Lodge was a great base to experience the Savoie Valley. The Lodge is beautiful, the bed super comfortable and since it's perched halfway up the mountain extremely quiet. Our first morning we enjoyed coffee outside to the sound of cow and sheep bells. After our hikes, we had snacks and apertifs in the garden while we relaxed in the afternoon sun. There is also a jacuzzi and sauna to work out the aches! A restaurant is also available within walking distance if you would like something different. ||||A wonderful experience with no...
Read moreWe booked this place for one night on short notice because the photo looked good in their website. We arrived by car in the afternoon. The real place did not disappoint. From what I gathered from the proprietor Alain who speaks excellent English, the building was constructed on a site where the original stone wall was left intact outside a structure in glass, constructed with steel, concrete, stone and wood. The result is splendid. The interior is funky and stuffed with very "designy" furniture. ||||Sometimes form comes before function, especially in the bath /shower room. ||||There is no reception, there are no room keys. One feels like a guest of the team. In the evening we were served a nice three-course meal and local wine. There is one communal big table for 12.||Plenty rooms and sofas and chairs to recline afterwards with a drink, coffee or tea before retiring to the room.||||Breakfast was very good too.||||I am sure over time the Mineral Lodge will develop into a "just so" bijou where everything will work and function to the max. ||Go and see for yourself, it's...
