Ideal stopover spot in Avallon, France. Hotel/pub Vauban is situated in the centre of this charming town with bars, restaurants and shops close by. We only stayed one night in the apartment behind the pub - the apartment was clean and reasonably priced with a very comfy bed (we slept well). A breakfast of coffee, fresh juice, baguette, butter and a selection of homemade jams was served in the bar area before we set off on our journey. The homemade jams are of an excellent quality and taste, especially the rhubarb jam. The host (Carlos) and his wife were extremely friendly and helpful, we found them both to be lovely people. Though he didn't speak much English, and we didn't speak very good French, he called his wife, and she was very nice, telling us everything about the room and the offerings of the inn.||||It was a basic room, with new everything, and suited us just right for one night before we headed back up to Vezelay to visit the basilica (which was amazing, by the way).
