This has been a really difficult review for me to write, I needed a few weeks to gather my thoughts on how to write this review in mediation our trip was the end of August and height of summer, in part lovely, in part terrible. I have written many reviews, it put's my travel or holiday in perspective, adds to our experience of a hotel or location. Our family have been for some time talking about a trip to Il de Re (will pen a review on this separately), and we discussed whether to take a villa or stay in a hotel, we chose the latter as we wanted to dine at the hotel. After a lot of searching, we settled on Les Grenettes which is a debatable 4* and no queries re their 5** camp site which looked clean, friendly and happy customers. ||The Good, the location (once you find the entrance hidden down a tiny lane - we were lucky we arrived in daylight, other family members had a torrid time at night trying to find the hotel) is 500m from a lovely beach, great bike hire onsite (Brenda was lovely in looking after us), lovely pool area and some of the hotel rooms were recently refurbed with good air conditioning. ||The Bad, sadly there are plenty of areas which simply let down the Hotel and customer service, the first is a communications one, we are good at adapting to what's around us, however, if you wanted something no one comes to your help unless you get pushy (which we don't like doing anyway let alone on holiday). Our French is good, but other visitors who didn't have good French were left to fend for themselves. not being made welcome, laissez-faire attitude, needs a customer service reboot. ||The facilities were good, however, and its quite an 'however' the corridor to our room (24) had a foul smell, part damp, part drains, very off-putting, the fridge in the room (much appreciated btw) the previous customer had stored old dead fish in it which was horrendous, fair play to the room staff who had a look at it and even they recalled from the smell, they said it would be looked at immediately by their tech or engineer team, needless to say despite prompts nothing happened. The rooms with a terrace are lovely, a good refurb and delighted to see USB charging ports beside the bed, and that you can turn off all the room lights from also beside the bed. ||My last comments again is to communication, for whatever reason the management of this resort decided that for men you must wear tight speedo-type shorts apparently for hygiene (I don't get this as proper swimshorts have a lining inside to ensure hygiene is kept to high standard - there was no request for swim caps thus hair in the pool). You have to leave your shoes/flip flops on the rack before entering the pool, again it's not a pretty sight nor smell at the end of the day beside the pool. I truly get if there is a rule for us to abide by, then I would of course adapt, only one lifeguard, in particular, we found very aggressive shouting at my father in law who was 85, a better explanation and thus our understanding should I would have thought to be a basic requirement from pool staff to hotel guests! How do we know unless we are educated, hopefully in a civil manner. ||My in laws tried the food during the day and evening, and well lets not go there, we ate out every night... ||In summary, its a lovely location, it has soooo much potential to be a great Hotel to stay in, would I go back, well I ask the family (8 of us ranging from 8yrs to 85) would they go back to this hotel, each score was out of 10, it scored 32 out of a...
Read moreArrived late on the 14 of July, did let the staff know before hand. There was someone available despite they are normally closed. Very much appreciated. ||Initial booked room wasn’t cleaned so we got an other room for the night and were upgraded to an apartment the next day. ||The first room we got was fully renovated and clean, was located in a building next to the reception. ||The apartment was in the same building and was very tired and in a desperate need for an update. Despite of, room size was spacious and had access to all your needs during a family holiday. ||During our stay we have been contact with the staff on multiple occasions and have been helped with a smile at each time. This really did make it easier. ||Hotel offers a breakfast but we only used it once as the choice of food is very small for quite a high price. ||Swimming pool is clean and easy accessible.||Playground for the kids is great and overview able.||We would come back for sure if we decide to go back...
