My wife and I stayed at the Hotel French Coco for seven nights in February on the last leg of our Guadeloupe, Marie Galante and Martinique holiday. We arrived in the afternoon having flown from Guadeloupe. We received a warm welcome from the reception staff - check in was slick and we were offered chilled flannels and a choice of drinks. After a brief orientation tour of the facilities we were shown around our accommodation - we had opted for a Caraibe suite.||We had a very well-appointed room. There was a king sized bed provided with the standard duvet and pillows. It was a very comfortable bed with a supportive mattress. There were dark out curtains which did a good job in excluding the light from the sliding doors which led on to the terrace. Outside there were two sun loungers around a small splash pool as well as a table with two chairs for relaxing al fresco. There was a rocking chair as well. We could make hot drinks using the appliances on the side board on the terrace. The miniature bottles of rum which greeted us were a very welcome treat and there was another gift of some hotel branded body lotion.||In the bedroom there was a safe in the wardrobe. Oddly, it was situated on such a high shelf that we needed to borrow a footstool so that we could use it! Bizarre!! The air conditioning unit was sufficiently powerful to keep the room at a suitable temperature so that we could sleep comfortably at night. The bathroom was spacious with a large sink and separate shower with both a rainfall head and a hand held head. The multitude of towels were thick and absorbent reflecting once again the quality of the accommodation - they were changed frequently. There was plenty of hanging space for our clothes as well as drawers in the wardrobe. The suite was blissfully quiet - we heard no sound whatsoever from adjacent units. ||Breakfast was served in the restaurant. We were asked to pre-order our selection the previous evening. There were yoghurts, pastries and fresh fruit with a selection of cook-to-order options. We found it sufficiently varied to meet our needs. We also had a dinner on our first and final nights - an interesting menu. The food was very good, both in its execution and presentation. Naturally it was considerably more expensive than other restaurants we ate at on our trips to various parts of Martinique.||The hotel has a very attractive pool just below the restaurant. It didn’t seem to get a lot of use whilst we stayed at the hotel. The grounds are a delight with so many native plants and a plethora of bird life. It seemed to be policy to allow the undergrowth to grow relatively freely - this was easy on the eye as the vegetation had a more natural rather than a manicured appearance. The paths are all boardwalks which are kept clear by the tireless housekeeping team.||We found the staff at the hotel to be universally excellent in their roles - friendly and helpful. Housekeeping was impressively unobtrusive. Wait staff at breakfast and dinner were attentive and service was timely. We found the reception staff to be charming and tolerant of our limited French. Marion and Steffi secured restaurant bookings for us - their charming demeanours exemplified the personable nature of this bijou hotel. We were glad to have stayed in this modern and stylish accommodation and we can understand why it is so highly rated on review sites. Its location made it ideal for exploring Martinique’s many attractions by car. It should be remembered that to get off the Caravelle peninsula requires a 15 minute drive but hey, we’re on holiday so who needs to rush? This is addressed to those drivers who like to ride as close to the car in front as possible - one of the less engaging features of driving...
Read moreWe are only on our second day at French Coco Hotel in Martinique, and I must say—it is truly an enchanting setting. Modest from the outside yet remarkably luxurious, natural, and comfortable on the inside, the hotel strikes a beautiful balance between simplicity and elegance.||The staff, including Laeticia and Axel, have been nothing short of wonderful—kind, supportive, and sweet as honey :). The food has been absolutely out of this world, though on the pricier side, thanks in part to Martinique’s economic and administrative connection with France. I still find it hard to believe that this colonial relationship continues to exist today.|The amenities rival those of any high-end hotel, and then some: a private outdoor pool, an inviting coffee setup, and an outdoor lounge—all designed for your enjoyment. Our room opened up to a lush hillside garden—just heavenly.||We are visiting during the rainy season and are still working on finalizing our itinerary. There is so much to do, it is going to require struck prioritizing. Be warned: the mosquitoes are ubiquitous, so bring plenty of strong repellent (DEET is essential). You can also expect rain most days, at least in short bursts.||Still, I look forward to discovering more of this magical island—its rich culture, stunning natural beauty, and layered history. I brought with me Cahier d’un retour au pays natal by Aimé Césaire, a must-read for everyone in the diaspora and beyond.||So...
Read moreMy husband and I spent two weeks at French Coco in July 2018. We didn't realise this was low season, and so we had the hotel virtually to ourselves. Our room (Caraibe Suite) had a private terrace and plunge pool, and was very clean Breakfast is ordered the night before, from a small but perfectly sufficient menu, including fresh fruit, eggs and pastries The pool and grounds are kept spotlessly clean The setting is very intimate and feels very private at all times The beach is about 200m away - it is a small, public beach, largely deserted at this time of year. The hotel provides beach towels. The village is about 1 mile way, with a grocery store, souvenir shop and some restaurants (although note that many are closed in low season). For other shops (e.g. pharmacy), the closest place is Trinite (10 minute drive; car hire is essential for this location) The staff are extremely attentive, and catered for all our needs (reserving restaurants, advising on activities etc.) The only thing that lets it down is the restaurant, which although nice enough has a limited menu and is not as good as other restaurants in the area which are similarly priced. The menu is the same for lunch and dinner, and there is no room service/snack menu. We would highly...
