After a disastrous two nights at another campsite further down the river, we were in dire need of a decent place to stay for the remainder of our holiday. Having researched for possible campsites online before going to the Ardeche, we drove straight here and were delighted with what we found. A short drive out of town through vineyards lands you at this relaxed campsite under a sprawl of tall trees.||||There aren't many plots right next to the river as the campsite is more long than wide, but before we checked in, the guy at the bar told us to go and have a look around and see if we found somewhere we liked. We did, and I went back to the bar to check in with the very friendly lady on the desk.||||Just next to the bar with WiFi there is a swimming pool, which we didn't make use of because we were camped as close as possible to a stretch of the Ardeche river just perfect for swimming. There is a thick lawn with shady trees and a volleyball net separating the campground and the river. Flat rocks on the near side of the river are perfect for sunbathing on, and there are taller rocks for diving on the other side. There seems to be a youth hostel style campsite just next door, so there is often the sound of young children playing games, getting ready for kayak trips, or doing choir practice - not a problem in the slightest, quite relaxing even.||||There are canoes available to hire for just paddling around on the river next to the campsite, but to do the actual 32km descent of the Ardeche you have to organise something with another company. The owners of the campsite recommended a company for us, who after a quick briefing and a cup of coffee dropped off our kayak, paddles, life jackets and everything right to our tent, leaving us free to leave in the morning the next day whenever we wanted. After the trip, they dropped us right at the campsite again, perfect service. I heartily recommend using the same company, just ask at the campsite reception.||||Showers were hot and strong, but a sign asking you to be careful about your water use suggested that in peak season the hot water might be limited, and the toilets were always clean.||||We cannot recommend this campsite strongly enough, it was...
Read moreFantastic campsite right by the edge of the river and just around the corner of the famous Pont d'Arc. The campsite is also located really close to several canoe hire places and only 5 minute drive to the main town Salavas where you can find anything you need. Pitches are spacious and some of them are stepped up the hill so everyone can enjoy the view of the river. There is loads of shade in a wooded area at the foot of a big cliff but you can also find plenty of sunshine. Sanitaries are clean and well-maintained. There is also a bar restaurant and a pool which we didn't use.
The owners are absolutely wonderful and make this place feel like it's home. They take bread and croissants/pains au chocolat orders for the following day which is great and can be enjoyed by the river in the morning.
We stayed in this campsite the last week of September so it was pretty quiet and felt like luxury to have the river and the beach to ourselves.
I would definitely recommend this place which is an absolute paradise. Make sure you go for a walk around the area, visit the old village of Salavas and hire a canoe! (We used Castor Canoe which was recommended to us by the campsite owners and you...
Read moreA brilliant campsite. Perfectly sized in terms of facilities offered but still feeling personal and friendly. The bar wasn’t too expensive. My favourite was the rosé wine and cassis with an ice cube, less than 2 euros!
The pitch was well shaded, had a shared sink and was very close to the toilet block.
Location, location, location it’s right next to the river. My daughter and I went for a morning run and then went straight into the river for a swim. Before 9ish it’s very quiet and peaceful. After then it’s chaos as all the kayaks come past, but it’s a fun atmosphere and everyone seemed to be high spirited.
There is a small village around a 20 minute walk away with a shop, bar and pizza restaurant. The nearest supermarket is a 10 minute drive.
One of the top 3 campsites I’ve stayed at, was gutted to leave. We had some brilliant family...
