Maison Romane 1136 — Hotel in Mâcon

We stayed here for one night and found the accommodation to be exceptional and spotlessly clean. The owners were extremely welcoming and we were treated to half a carafe of excellent local wine with some nibbles on our arrival.||Our suite was on two floors and we had everything one could need, with excellent toiletries and full cooking facilities if required. The house is full of character and had been carefully restored and sensitively modernised by the owners with input from the ministry of culture. This really shows and you will feel transported in time whilst staying. All modern facilities are also available including free WiFi etc.||Elizabeth and her husband recommended places to visit and local restaurants.||The breakfast was first class with a good selection of breads, pastries, fresh fruit and cheeses and an excellent choice of coffee and teas.||There is no private parking at the property but we managed to get a space in the square, although if no spaces here not quite sure where you would end up.||One night was not enough and we shall definitely be returning for another visit the next time we are travelling in the area. Cannot recommend Maison Romane 1136 enough. This was one of the highlights of our trip. Elizabeth and her husband have lovingly restored this building, revealing the layers of history while maintaining modern comforts, and beautiful style incorporating textiles and decorations from her travels. It's stunning. ||||On arrival Elizabeth had reserved a parking spot right outside the door, and provided us with half a carafe of wine and a few nibbles of local cheese and fruit to help us settle in. ||||Breakfast in the morning was great, and shared with two other guests. (the suite I think is served separately upstairs). It included a generous serving of fresh pastries, cheese, fruit, coffee etc. We almost skipped lunch afterwards. ||||Elizabeth kindly gave us a tour of the whole building (before the next guests check in) and shared her in-depth knowledge of the layers of history and how they chose to restore the building to retain it's character. My husband and I stayed at Maison Romane for 2 nights in late December 2017 for our honeymoon. The friendly host offered us a free upgrade to their best room, which was very spacious, comfortable and well equipped. Everything about this historically significant, gorgeous accommodation is unique and absolutely amazing. It is by far the most unusual (in a good way) experience we've had with travel accommodation.
